I added the "I guess" because I figured some of you guys may have figured out what's going on from the end of the last chapter (though I'm kind of bad at foreshadowing, there are hints at the beginning of this chapter about what's going on...).
______
"Kid? Where the heck have you been?" Maka looked at me with tears straming down her face. Her eyes were red around her irises from crying, and she curled up in a ball with her back against the wall.
"I-I went to go save Joseph... I didn't think you would get sick in the middle of the night...." I said. I looked into her shaky eyes, and mine were probably shaking themselves. This was the first time in five months I had seen anything like this in her eyes: fear. And my own were just reflecting that emotion.
I should have been able to pick up what was going on, since this was the exact thing that happened five months prior, but I didn't. I walked up to her, squatted down and placed my lips gently on her forehead. She broke her little ball, wrapped her arms around me, and sobbed even harder. I had to put a hand on the wall for a second to make sure I didn't fall, but then moved both hands around her waist.
"Maka, please, stop crying...." I asked, and pulled my head back to see her face. She averted her gaze from mine. "Maka, please just look at me..."
She didn't look at me, but in stead kept looking down and softly muttered the words "I'm pregnant." I could hardly understand what she said because she said it so softly.
"What?" I asked.
"I'm pregnant." she said a little louder, and another tear fell down. I bent down and pecked her lips.
"Maka, I-" I tried to think of something, anything, to say, but I was at an udder loss for words. I had no clue how I felt about this. Of course Maka and I had planned on having kids, but we had planned on waiting.
I wrapped my arms around her shoulders, and we sat there on the bathroom floor for what seemed like hours just sitting in our embrace. Before we knew it, the first rays of sunlight were shining from the window outside the bathroom door, which I didn't close. It wasn't until then that I realized how long it had been since I had walked in there.
I looked down at Maka, and saw her peaceful looking sleeping face. I picked her up in my arms and carried her to the bed and lay her down gently.
TIME SKIP
"Spirit, will you please stop nagging me about Maka?" I asked. It had been three weeks since Maka had gotten pregnant, and now that Spirit was threatening to kill me if I got Maka pregnant. I kind of found that weird, though. Most parents that I knew would try and get their kids to have children when they were married, not be threatened by their in laws.
Then again, this was the most insane, kind of pervy father ever. Not like he's really been much of a father to Maka anyways.
"Just promise you won't get Maka pregnant!" he yelled.
"I can make no such promises." I told him.
"Why the hell not?" He kept yelling. "Don't tell me she's already pregnant!"
"What?" I said with widened eyes. Maka and I hadn't told anyone that she was pregnant yet, and I doubt she would appreciate it if I told the one person she had hated for so much of her life. "I uh... Wh-what makes you think that? How do you know that Maka and I just don't want to eventually have a family? Why are you so against the idea anyways, I thought most parents would want to eventually be grandparents!"
"Because I can't stand the thought that she may end up dying like your mother did!" Spirit yelled, and I realized his eyes were watering up.
"That's not going to happen." I stated blandly.
"How the heck do you know?" Spirit yelled, his tone suggesting I was a know-it-all.
"I have my ways of knowing, now if you'll excuse me, I need to go." I told him, walking away from the bench the two of us had been sitting on next to the basketball court.
"Kid?" I heard a voice say behind me. I turned around and saw Black Star in a white t shirt and black basketball shorts.
"Hey Black Star! Long time no see!" I said, smiling at him. We hadn't gotten the chance to talk much anymore with everything going on in both of our lives. It's not like we didn't try and hang out sometimes, but one of us always seemed to be busy.
"Yeah, I guess it's been a while. You wunna play basketball before you leave?" Black Star asked.
"I really wish I could, Black Star, but I really need to get home." I told him. "Maybe tomorrow?
"I have a date tomorrow...." Black Star told me.
"Really?" I asked, wondering why someone would sate someone who had such a big ego and was so unsymmetrical. "With who?"
"That's for me to know and you not to." Black Star said.
"Oh come on, why can't I know?" I asked him in a whiny voice.
"Because Tsubaki and I haven't talked about coming out about our relationship." Black Star said.
"Did you just Tsubaki?" I asked him. His lips mouthed the word fuck as soon as he realized he said that, and I grinned. "So how long have you guys been dating?"
"Almost two years....." Black Star told me.
"You guys have been together longer than Maka and I, and you guys haven't told anyone you guys are dating?" I said, really surprised. I didn't think anyone would be able to go that long without slipping up, with the exception of now. "Why?"
"We have our reasons..." Black Star said. "Can we just leave it at that and pretend I never told you that?"
"Sure, your secrets safe with me. Anyways, I really have to go now." I told Black Star.
"Okay, I'll see you soon!" Black Star said,
