n. the subtle but persistent feeling of being out of place, as maladapted to your surroundings as a seal on a beach-lumbering, clumsy, easily distracted, huddled in the company of other misfits, unable to recognize the ambient roar of your intended...

We sit in traffic for what feel's like hours. Both of us quiet as we think of our past's.
I look out the window remembering all the good times we had as kids, before me and Five disappeared.
I stare off into the distance, not wanting to think about the trauma of our childhood. I notice a scarf hanging on a sign to a diner, sitting up more I squint to try to see it better.
A few seconds later, as if a light bulb went off in my head, I realize that it's Vanya's scarf. I look over to tell Allison to stop the car, but it seems as if my sister has noticed the scarf as well.
As traffic stops moving again, we look at each other before we hop out of the car, moving towards the scarf.
"Vanya." whispers Allison, grabbing the scarf down from the sign it was hanging from.
We both look at the scarf while we search the area for our missing sister. "Hey. Pardon me. Hey." someone calls out for us from behind us.
"Oh.." mutters Allison, as we both turn to see an officer looking at us pointedly.
"I gotta ask you to stay behind the lines." states the officer. "We had an accident here last night."
'yeah no shit.' I think, looking around at the scene.
"A... What kind of accident?" asks Allison, pulling me out of my thoughts.
"Ma'am. The line, please." states the officer, pointing to the police line we were still standing in front of.
"Okay. Yes. Sorry." apologizes Allison as she pulls me with her. I yank my arm from her hold, and stand off to the side.
"Got a lot of stuff on the ground, okay?" states the officer. "To be wary of."
"What happened?" I ask, speaking for the first time, startling the officer who forgot I was there.
"We're trying to figure that out." states the officer, not going into too much detail. "As soon as we do, you'll be able to read about it in the newspaper with everybody else."
'Newspaper? What is this? the 60's?' I think to myself as I see the officer starting to walk away.
I turn away from the officer, not wanting to stand around him any more. I head back towards the car to drown in my thoughts as Allison continues to talk to the officer.
I lean against the car, waiting for Allison to finish with the officer, who's now talking animatedly with her, probably having found out who she is.
I look around at the scene. I notice the crushed front of the car where it looks as if someone was thrown into it. I look closer to see blood trailing down the side of a wall as well, with a pool of blood near another car.
Before i'm able to think of it any more Allison walks back over to me.
"I'm going with Officer Cheddar to the hospital to speak with one of the victims." states Allison, pulling out her motherly voice. "Do you wanna wait here for me?"
