"Severus, please. I'm asking you to listen to me."
"I will NOT listen to you. You ruined everything! I was fired because of you. I felt pity for you," His words seeped from his mouth with venom.
"Pity for the stupid little girl you are. So I didn't tell. I didn't tell because I didn't want to embarrass myself explaining that somebody like you could like me. But he found out anyways. Albus found out and he fired me. It's all your fault."
I woke up, sweat dripping down my forehead. I felt disgusting and I probably looked even worse. I had a nightmare. That's all. Nothing to worry about. I looked over at the clock which read 9 am, time for a shower. It was now Saturday, and I had left Hogwarts last Sunday. I had two days left before I had to face him again. I was still in no place to do so.
I pushed myself off of the couch and opened my trunk, grabbing a new outfit. I jumped into the shower and rinsed off. I couldn't feel any worse than I did right now. I wouldn't lie, I missed him. I missed laughing with or even at him. I missed seeing him try to hide his smile when I actually did something that pleased him. I missed everything about him.
I got out of the shower after cleaning myself off. I grabbed my towel and dried my body, placing it on my hair. I slipped my bra and underwear on. I then stared at the shirt I had mindlessly grabbed on the way to the shower. It was his shirt. I placed on my shorts and carried the shirt out of the bathroom with me. I stared at the shirt again, slowly placing it on. It covered my shorts, appearing as though I was only clothed from waist up. Just then I heard a knock at the door. I assumed it was McGonagall and went to open it. I was right.
"Good morning." She smiled kindly at me, but I didn't return the favor. I still wasn't in the best mood. "Morning, Professor." She rolled her eyes playfully. "Please, call me Minerva." I nodded and followed her over to the kitchen. "Seeing the look of your wet hair, I assume you have not eaten breakfast yet, correct?" I smiled and shrugged, knowing she already knew the answer. She grabbed something from the cabinet and began cooking it. She had done this every morning, and I appreciated it. We had become a little closer over the week and I began to trust her more. I thought about telling her why I had left in the first place. Surely she would understand... right? It wasn't all my fault, the bracelet caused it.
She had sat down two plates at the table, gesturing me to come sit with her. I brought over two cups of pumpkin juice and sat one in front of her. She smiled gratefully and took a small sip of it, before sitting it back down. I sat at the head of the table, with her just beside me. "Minerva, I'd like to explain to you why I took this break." She lit up, leaning closer to me and nodding. "Well, you are aware of the soulmate bracelets, right?" She nodded and gestured to her wrist, showing off her yellow colored band (happy). I managed to get out a smile and continued on.
"I think I've found mine. I'm not sure though..." I paused, looking down at the food which I was now stabbing at with my fork. "I wasn't able to test it." She nodded and connected her hands, sitting them on the table. "Oh, and this troubles you?" I picked my head up slowly, focusing my attention onto her. "Yes. Our relationship wouldn't exactly be accepted by society." She tilted her head, trying to figure out what I meant. "How come?" She took a sip of her juice, and I managed to gain the courage to spit it out quickly.
"It's Severus."
She spit her pumpkin juice across the table in shock. I jumped and covered my mouth, trying to stop the laughter from coming out in a serious situation. "Oh, dear. Pardon my mess, allow me to clean that." I nodded, too afraid to stop her. She walked over to the kitchen and retrieved a rag, wetting it before coming back and wiping off the spill from the table surface. "Now, where were we? Ah, yes." She sat back down and I stiffened, afraid of what she would say next. She opened her mouth to speak, but stopped when she heard a knock on her front door. I furrowed my eyebrows, wondering who it could be.
She stood up and approached the door, cracking it to see who it was. "Oh, dear. I believe now is not the correct time. You must come back later." I tilted my head, confused on why she would be sending somebody off. She then spoke next, causing me to freeze in place. "Severus, I must urge you to leave. Come back later, I'm afraid I have company." I didn't hear his reply. She sighed and opened the door more before stepping outside and closing it behind her. Leaving me alone in the apartment. I was thankful she didn't let him in, she probably knew that.
I waited around 5 minutes before she came back in with a smile on her face, returning to the table. "Now, let's talk, shall we?" I hesitated before I nodded slowly, not exactly sure I wanted to. "You say it was him? You weren't able to test it?" I shook my head no and she thought for a moment. "I will be rightfully honest with you, dear. I think Severus has many things going on in his life right now." I nodded, afraid of continuing the conversation. I had a feeling she would say something that would make me more upset. "But... even he can be oblivious sometimes. I have never seen him as happy as he was in the last two weeks before Sunday."
My eyes widened and I tilted my head carefully, trying to read if she was lying or not. She seemed sincere, which scared me. "I won't admit that I simply agree with the relationship, being as he is your professor. Which I'm sure you know, and realize. However, I won't say I necessarily disagree, either." I raised my eyebrow and thought for a moment. What she said next sent me for a loop. "There comes a time where you need to grab a Thestral by the ears. Going through things you never imagined, will take you to places you would only see in your dreams originally."
I smiled, thanking her for the advice and began packing my bag. She stared at me as I did so, speaking up when I finished. "Heading back early?" She smirked at me as I nodded softly. Believing I was now ready, thanks to her. "Minerva, do you know who your soulmate is?" She smiled happily. "Elphinstone Urquart, my husband. He is in the Ministry of Magic." I nodded, smiling back at her. I was happy she had found her soulmate. I picked up the dishes quickly, bringing them to the kitchen and washing them. "You're in a big hurry, dear." She laughed at me as I scurried around the apartment, fixing anything that I had left out of place.
I smiled, nodding quickly. "I have something to test back at Hogwarts." She smiled and looked at me victoriously, knowing she helped. I finished cleaning and we began to head out. She stopped me before we left the apartment, turning back around and entering again. I held the door open as I watched her grab a book off the shelf. She walked back over and handed it to me. I read it carefully. 'Hogwarts Library presents: Dark Arts of the Century.' I looked at her curiously. "Severus has always taken a liking to that book, yet he never bought one of his own. I planned to give it to him during Christmas, but I believe it will mean more coming from you." She winked at me and I blushed softly.
We left the apartment and were now—finally—on our way back to Hogwarts.
