Chapter 20

Zane’s POV
  I’m in my office looking at some paperwork when I come across a letter from Bright Port. I open the envelope and read the letter.
  Dear High Priest Zane,
      I am one of your guards that is in Bright Port and I wrote this to you because Lord Aphmau has recently been Bright Port but she some how vanish but we found some red hair on the floor and we had it tested and it says that Nicole Von Ronsenburg from the village of  Scaleswind and we believe that they met somehow and our now traveling together. We are not 100% sure so we suggest sending someone to see.
  ‘I already knew this so this means that whoever sent the last note wasn’t one of my guards but nonetheless Nicole is the lord’s daughter and she was presumed to be dead but if she is alive then I might be able to make Phoenix Drop fall in line.’ I get up and head to my room. Last time I went to Phoenix Drop I found out that my eldest brother lives there and protects the lord. Father wants him to come back and if he doesn’t we are going to destroy the village and if I can get proof that Aphmau has Nicole then we can have the village of Scaleswind help us. As I get to my room I grab my communication amulet and contact my spy.
  “High Priest Zane, I can’t talk too much or someone might see me.”
  “I want to know if a girl with red hair that is named Nicole is there?”
  “No sir, no one by that name is here.”
  “Is Lord Aphmau at the village?”
  “No sir, she left with some of the guards to Bright Port to do something but she didn’t tell me.”
  “Dang it thank you and I will check in on you in a few weeks and see if she is there.”
  “Yes sir.” With that I put the amulet down and hope to Irene that she is alive so I can get Phoenix Drop to stand down. I sit on my bed and sigh. I grab a picture of me and Kai when he showed me some things he had learned in training.

His memory
  I hear yelling in one of the rooms so I go in and see Kai.
  “Hey Kai what are you doing?”
  “I’m practicing my fighting skills, wanna watch?” I nod and sit on a chair and watch her. After a few minutes she turns around and looks at me with a smile on her face.
  “You are one of the coolest girls I know.” As I say that her ears go down a little along with her tail. “Are you ok? Kai, you look sad.”
  “Sorry, just everyone except my dad uses she/her pronouns and I don’t always feel like a girl.”
  “Oh then how do you feel?”
  “Well it’s not that simple, just let me explain.”
After explaining
  “So yeah that’s pretty much it.” She looks at me and smiles.
  “Ok well then if you like I can use he/him on you instead of she/her.” He smiles and his tail wags a little. I smile but you can’t tell because of my mask. He shows me a few more moves then I leave to go help my mom for a bit
Back to the real world
  I smile at the memory and sigh.
  “I will find you Kai, I hope you’re safe.” I get dress and lay on my bed,it’s been a long day and with that I fall asleep.
