Zane’s POV (didn’t see that coming, did you)
It’s been a month or two since Kai left and I was upset. Not at her but myself. I decide to go down to the dungeon and see Alex, one of my old guards before he betrayed me.
“Hello Alex.”
“What do you want?”
“I suggest you behave and be glad we didn’t kill you.”
“You made it look like it to Kai.”
“I know I did but I needed her to know I’m serious but I needed you to tell me some things.”
“I know but at least you know that Kai wasn’t part of any of this. I may have betrayed you but I don’t want Kai to be sad that one of their only friends hates them.” I nod in response.
“Ok so you don’t have a reason to why you wanted the eye you told Kai but made sure he forgot so he couldn’t tell me when you ran by us you told him to come thinking he would remember and he is going to be mad at you for it and now we don’t know where he is now.”
“Yes, is thou done here?”
“Yes for now.” I leave the dungeon and just walk around the castle. I find myself in the library which makes me remember something about my past with Kai. That has been happening a lot recently.
His memory
Kai and I were looking around the castle. I am about 10 and he is about 11. I am still upset about my older brother who died about a year ago but my parents don’t want me talking about him or my younger brother who died at the age of 8 so that means I’m the last Ro’meave brother alive. We end up at the library.
“Woah, this place is huge.” I giggle at him for his amazement. Kai is a girl yes but he doesn't always feel like a girl so I use he/him pronouns and his dad uses they/them pronouns which is really nice but most people use she/her so that’s a little sad, but he doesn’t care. We look through the library and find a few books we like. “Hey let’s read up there.” He points to a ladder that leads up to a small platform and he starts heading up there. I follow and we sit there and read for an hour or so. A guard comes in.
“Prince Zane and Kai.” We look at him. “Kai, your father said it’s about time you went home.”
“Ok, come on Kai.”
“You’ll have to come and get me.” I look at Kai. He always does this kind of stuff.
“Fine but you better not whine when I get you.” I know that Kai isn’t going to make it easy so this should be fun. As the guard climbs up the ladder Kai pushes it off the wall and the guard falls.
“Come on Zane let’s go.” He jumps off the wall and holds his arms out to me. “Jump Zane jump.” I do and he catches me and we start running. Kai is a guard in training so I trust him. He is training to be my guard when I become king and he will get to go with me everywhere. As we reach the door of the library I look back to see the guard has gotten up. I run to catch up to Kai and soon the guard is chasing us. Kai grabs my hand and goes over to the window. He pushes me out of the way and I start running back to where we were but I was heading to the lobby. I look behind me and see Kai get on to the window seal and turns his back to the guard. I watch as he does a backflip and jumps over the guard. The guard hit the wall and fell on his butt. Kai laughs and starts running towards me. We make it to the lobby where his dad was and he looks at us and smiles. He sees the guard chasing us and laughs. We run to him and hide behind him.
“Well it looks like you two had fun but it’s time to go Kai.” He nods and gives me a hug.
“I shall see thou later, yes?” I laugh at the way he said that. His dad rolls his eyes since that is how grownups use to talk. With one final wave he leaves and I head back to my room.
Memory over
I smile at the memory remembering how dumb we were back then. I head to my study to see what I need to do. As I get into my study I see a note on my desk I grab and read it.
‘Dear High Priest Zane,
I have come to believe Nicole is alive. She was recently seen in Bright Port with a bunch of people from Phoenix Drop. I hope this finds you well.’
“It has no name but if this is true I could use this to my advantage to get Garroth to come back and to get Lord Aphmau to be my bride.” I smirk under my mask. “I need to tell my father I’m going on a trip soon, but I need to be sure.”
