Chapter 27

"Dexter buddy, come here!"

The dog istantly ran towards us, we decided to go on a late night drive. Ngayon naman ay nasa malapit na beach kami, I wanted to get away and to relax myself after what happened earlier, we took Dexter too dahil ayaw naman naming maiwan siya sa condo ko.

Nakaupo kami sa buhanginan ng tumakbo si Dex patungo kay Claine kaya napahiga siya, they we're playing catch with the small ball. I was just watching the two of them, they look cute together.

"Ang lalim ng iniisip mo, what are you thinking?"

"Huh?" Humarap ako kay sakanya, hindi ko napansing nakatingin na pala siya sa'kin. "Nothing." I said.

Hindi siya umimik at pinagmasdan lang ako, minutes later she threw the small ball again para kuhanin 'yon ni Dexter, he's a great runner, he's fast and well trained.

"He's a good boy, well trained." I stated nang ibalik ni Dexter ang bola sa kamay niya.

"He is." Nakangiting sagot niya, muli siyang ibinato ang bola, this time farther than the last time.

I stayed quiet as a stare by the sky, it was filled with stars and the night sky's calm right now. I took a deep breath when I raise my finger up to the sky, tracing some stars to where it will go.

"Something's moving up there." I heard her say, bahagya niya pang itinuro ang langit kaya napatingin rin ako sa gawi ng kamay niya.

I saw a white dot, it was moving fast. I widen my eyes a bit nang mapag tanto ko kung ano ang nakita ko sa kalangitan, it was a shooting star.

"It was a shooting star." I said.

"Close your eyes and make a wish!" Humarap siya sa'kin at hinawakan ang kamay ko, intertwining our fingers together.

"Why?" Tanong ko nang pumikit ako.

"Make a wish, it says that shooting stars grant wishes." Sagot niya.

"It doesn't." I said, still closing my eyes. "Tsaka wala na 'yan. Nakadaan na."

Ever since I was little I was so captivated by shooting stars when I found out that it grant some wishes, I saw some of it back then and would automatically close my eyes, wishing the only thing I wanted when I was a child.

My wish was to get the love I want from my Dad. It never happend. Hindi rin nangyari ang isa pang hinihiling ko, It was to meet my Mother. Still failed.

Now that I'm older, gusto kong matawa sa ginagawa ko noon. Shooting stars aren't real stars, it's a tiny bits of dust and rock called meteoroids which is falling into the earth's atmosphere, it's basically science not magic.

I opened my eyes, humarap ako sa katabi ko. She was still closing her eyes while smiling, my eyes went down on our hand. Intertwined together. I smiled a bit to myself, the woman I like is sitting besides me by the beach at night while holding my hand, in this moment. I felt happy. Genuinely happy.

"What did you wished for?" She opened her eyes at agad niya akong nilingon, joy evident in her eyes.

"Wala." Tipid na sagot ko.

"Huh? Bakit wala? You should have wish for something you really want." Ngumuso siya sa'kin.

"I don't have anything to wish for."

"Really?" Kunot noong tanong niya.

"How about you? May hinihiling ka pa ba? You have everything in the world, you're a Cortez." I purposely changed the topic, she seems like she didn't mind.
