Peyton pov:
"What did they say-"
"Shush!"
My mom had been on the phone for the past 7 minutes, she was receiving the news on whether I got in or not. It was stressful, I had been waiting a full week for this news. A week of being grounded might I add too.
"Okay, okay, thank you. Yeah, uh huh, bye bye." My mom hung up the phone and kept her gaze from me.
"Did I get in?" My hands were sweaty and wrung together.
Her face blossomed into a smile before she hugged me, squealing as she spun me around.
"You're in, you're in!" She cheered. My body physically buzzed at her words.
I couldn't help the large smile on my face, I hugged her just as tightly back, shouting in joy at getting into the school. I'm not sure why I cared so much about the school- that's a lie I do.
I wanted to be with my friends daily again, I wanted to go to a school that I liked, and I wanted a fresh start. Actually getting in made it feel like a dream come true, I get to do something I want for a change.
The front door opens and my father comes in, a sour look on his face. This makes us stop squealing and giggling, my mother greets him with a kiss to the cheek which he seems to hate.
"There's great news, Peyton got into the school." She patted his chest, a happy smile still on her lips.
He looked up, the sour look still there, he didn't care, he never cares about my accomplishments. He pulls a glass out and fills it with his favorite drink, staring me down as he takes a sip.
"Good, now she can't be fucking around here." Setting the glass down he grunts and starts to walk away, my mother following him to talk.
Not wanting my mood ruined, I grab my bag and head for Kenji's house. I almost fall off my board as I get closer to his house. Once at the door I knock and find him shirtless with his hair up, I could see a few splotches of paint on his body and clothes.
"Painting?" I smiled. He nodded and opened the door wider for me to come in.
His siblings and parents seem to be out leaving us alone, I head straight for his room. Once inside I find his chair and easel set up near his window. He comes back in and takes his seat at the chair, lighting up a cig as he goes back to work on it.
"I got into the school!" I blurted out. His head snapped to me, the widest smile on his face in years as he stood up and picked me up.
"Whoa, whoa, easy." I laugh, hugging him back as tightly.
He sets me down and holds me at an arm's distance, the smile still on his face. He turns around and rummages through his desk, pulling out a stack of cash and then tossing on a shirt.
"Huh? Where the fuck did you get that?" I was shocked by the amount.
He simply grabs my arm and pulls me out the door, dragging me outside and retrieving his parents car. He motions for me to get in as he takes the driver side, going along with it I hop in and see him sending a text off.
"So? Where are we going?" I chuckled, not used to him being spontaneous.
"To have fun." His deep voice fills the car, he must be pretty excited considering he spoke.
