sometimes you look the same....
just like you did before the accident....

-

IT HAS ONLY been a couple weeks since robin buckley's accident. nancy wheeler, robin's girlfriend of seven months, has not found any days that have been easier since they day it happened.

nancy and robin have been friends since they were eleven years old. they went through everything together- personal issues, puberty, crushes, several failed dates, and more. however, their almost 8 year long friendship- and the 7 months of dating- were flushed down the drain the minute robin's life had changed for good.

she didn't mean for her life to change, of course. when she awoke in the hospital at first, she didn't remember a single thing that had happened to her. she still hasn't been able to remember anything.

the doctors told nancy it was the most severe case of amnesia they had ever seen. they had assumed it was robin's memory blocking out her whole life because of everything she had been through. that was proven to be false when she remembered almost everything about herself, and even remembered everything about steve harrington.

steve was her best friend. she met him when they began working at fanily video together. they didn't get along too well at first, but it was mainly because of the past they had. in high school, steve had a crush on nancy and she completely rejected him. he had a huge ego at the time, and he only cared about his popularity in school.

however, once robin and steve began talking at work, and they found out that the other person had actually changed a lot. robin had become a lot more fun and happier, and steve was no longer a douchebag who only cared about himself.

the three of them had become close with not only one another, but also with another boy from high school. his name was eddie munson.

eddie munson was their high school's notorious drug dealer. he had repeated his senior year a couple of times, and he ran the dungeons and dragons club at hawkins high school- the high school that eddie, nancy, robin, and steve all had attended.

they constantly hung out as a friend group, doing different things such as going out, hanging at nancy's or steve's, and going to a random park to try what new drug eddie had in.

they eventually began calling themselves the fruity four- which was shortly after steve and eddie started dating. robin has been the first one to come out, followed by eddie, then nancy, and steve last (it took a long time for him to figure out he liked men).

steve and eddie were both robin's wingmen, and they had often tried helping robin get with nancy. they would drop hints about robin's crush or brag on something amazing robin had done that day.

-

"hey nance," steve greeted as nancy walked into his house. the four were supposed to be hanging out, but it seemed as if only steve was there.

"am i the first one here?" nancy asked, looking around for a sight of robin or eddie.

"nope, i was," a figure emerged from the kitchen doorway, a bag of chips in his hand. "steve and i hung out before we told the group to come over"

"oh, cool. so robin's still not here?" steve and eddie looked at each other, a smile growing on each of their faces. "what are you two smiling about?"

"nothing," they said at the same time, looking at each other out of the corners of their eyes.

nancy raised an eyebrow at them, not believing a single thing they were saying. that was one thing about nancy; she was skeptical of everything. it was the journalist in her, as some would say.

"robin's not here yet," steve informed her. "she said she was running a bit late. she was helping her mom with something"

"oh, okay"

"have you ever thought of like...asking her out?" eddie asked, causing steve's attention to snap over to his boyfriend's words. he looked at eddie with wide eyes as if he was trying to tell eddie to stop being so direct.

"robin?" nancy asked, looking over at the boys with that same skeptical look she always gave.

"yeah," eddie replied smoothly, "i see the way you look at her"

"and how is it that i look at her?"

"like you're in love with her. i give steve that same look every day"

nancy couldn't help but think he might be right. she had a crush on robin for years, but she never anticipated the possibility that robin could like her too.

but robin definitely did like her, and nancy found that out that night. nancy had caught robin after their latest random park adventure, and she wasn't sure if it was the drugs or how exhausted she was from holding the secret, but she finally asked robin out on a date.

robin called steve screaming about how happy she was that day.

-

nancy wishes robin could remember that day. maybe then nancy would feel less upset or lonely all the time. maybe then nancy would actually find a purpose in living. maybe then robin could fill the robin-shaped hole in nancy's heart. but nancy knew it could never happen. you don't mysteriously remember everything from the past eight years overnight after suffering a brain injury.

but nancy could never wish for anything more than to have robin back. the two didn't talk anymore. robin was in denial about that fact that she ever dated a girl- or even liked girls at all. it hurt nancy too much to be around robin anymore.

she didn't know how robin could lose 8 years of their friendship, but still remember the 2 years of her and steve's friendship. she often found herself jealous of steve or hating steve because steve had one thing she didn't.

robin.

and nancy had never been the jealous type. but when it comes down to your soulmate only remembering a couple people, nancy would push everyone out of the way to be in robin's mind again.
