ROBIN AWOKE THE next morning with her head pounding and her body feeling like she had been hit by a truck. she'd never been hungover before, so this feeling made her want to never drink again. she didn't know a hangover could be this bad.

she thought back to the night before, but her brain was fuzzy. she only knew one thing clearly- aidan almost gave her a panic attack last night. she remembered the car ride and the way he drifted carelessly into other lanes.

when she checked her phone, she had a million texts from him. they started from the night of the party and went all the way to the morning. she opened her phone to try to read all of them.

robin grew angrier by each text. she was practically fuming by the end of the conversation. why was he suddenly being like this? maybe it was time to drop him after all.

she heard a knock on her bedroom door. "robin? it's nancy"

robin rolled her eyes. what makes nancy think something changed between them?

"what?" robin asked, clearly annoyed.

"can i come in?"

"sure, whatever"

nancy opened the door, holding a box of donuts in one hand and gatorade in the other. "donuts soak up alcohol and gatorade has electrolytes in it"

"um....okay? what is this for?"

"well i'm betting you're severely hungover right now, so it'll help. i was a party kid in high school, y'know"

"how do you know i'm hungover?"

"oh....you don't remember our conversation last night, do you?" nancy asked, knowing inside that robin had forgotten what happened the night before.

"no? what are you talking about?"

"you just told me about going to a party with aidan last night. that's all" nancy lied, pushing her hopes of finally forming s connection with robin again away.

"oh," robin said shortly, glancing down at the box of donuts and the gatorade. she glanced back up at nancy, holding eye contact while trying to see if she thought nancy was lying. the tension in the room was thick, and nancy was trying her hardest to stay composed. "well i'm not really hungry or thirsty, so...."

truth was, she was hungry. and she was thirsty too. but she didn't want to give nancy the satisfaction of doing something right, so she instead shot her down.

"yeah," nancy fake smiled, placing the items she brought onto robin's dresser. "i get that. i'll leave these here in case you change your mind"

robin said nothing in response, so nancy took the awkward silence as her chance to leave. robin say on her bed once nancy was gone, wondering what that was. the tension.

it wasn't odd for nancy to do a kind gesture such as bringing robin some donuts and gatorade, as she still would occasionally get small things that she knew robin liked. there were a few times where robin's favorite kind of cereal or robin's favorite kind of fruit would randomly appear in the kitchen.

but the tension was the weird thing. ever since robin woke up in her hospital bed, she had never felt the tension that she just felt with nancy wheeler.

but at the same time, the tension with nancy also felt familiar. it felt like a warm embrace on a winter night. it was weird to robin how she could feel so uncomfortable and so comfortable at the same time.

robin hated not having her full memory. she would never let anyone know how hard it was on her. she broke down sobbing almost every night, and, despite not being religious, she prayed that she would magically get her memories back.

but she knew it was hopeless. her memories randomly appearing out of nowhere was never going to happen.

so she shook the thoughts away and got up to grab a donut and a drink of the gatorade, though she would never tell nancy.

-

after ignoring aidan's 63 texts and 35 missed calls, she finally picked up his 36th call around 10pm.

"what do you want?" robin grumbled to the voice on the other side.

"are you mad at me or something ?" he answered in an annoyed tone.

"oh, i'm sorry, did ignoring your calls and texts not send that message across?"

"what the fuck did i do?"

"you almost killed me last night, aidan. you were driving drunk and you literally swerved into another guy's lane!"

"what else was i supposed to do?"

"not drive drunk? especially with me in the car!" she scolded, getting more fired up as the conversation continued.

"you were blacked out drunk on the floor. what did you want me to do? leave you there? cause if the wrong guy would've found you-"

"the 'wrong guy' had already found me. and i'm lucky that i saved myself, because you were nowhere to be found. why did you bring me to a party with people i don't know and leave me alone? i'm blocking your number, don't contact me" robin retorted before hanging up and blocking his number before he had the chance to text her.

she sighed to herself and laid back on her bed. she thought back to the night before, trying to piece together the details. but even then, her memory was no use. she let out a sigh of frustration as tears formed in her eyes.

it was no suprise that robin was emotional, but she found herself to be even more emotional after the incident. and she hated it. she hated crying over every little thing. but she couldn't help it.

so, she sucked it up, got under her covers, and went to sleep.
