Nicole's POV
"They look so handsome in the onesies I got them!" Pattie said in awe, as I buttoned Daniels onesie. They were pretty cute. They were a nice orange, and they had 'Thing One' and 'Thing Two' on the front. "My boys are always handsome, mom." Justin said, brushing him thumb on Noah's rosy cheek. "I baked some cookies for when you were going to come, can you come help me?" Pattie asked Justin, he nodded and went to the kitchen to help his mom.

Justin's POV"Chocolate chip?" I asked, taking a bite of a cookie. "Chocolate chunk." She corrected, pressing her nose on my shoulder as she reached for some China to place the cookies on. She stopped, I could see a frown curled on her lips. She leaned on my shoulder, sniffing it once again.
"You smell like him." She whispered. "What are you talking about?" I asked, furrowing my eyebrows together in confusion. "You smell like Nicole's father, I grew up with him and he has a particular scent. He always used to smell like berry pies and the bait he used to catch fish." She said, repeatedly smelling my shoulder. "But, didn't he pass away?" I said, lowering my voice. "Yes, but you smell like him. I swear, you do. Have you wore any of his clothes, has Nicole given you any of his things?" She asked.
"No..how did he pass?" I asked, I remember the little old man that I met at the hospital. He was soaking wet, did Nicole's dad drown? "You have to talk to Nicole about that, honey." She said, placing the cookies on the platter and pouring milk in glasses. "Okay." I swallowed, how would I just ask about that? I was there when she was suffering after he died, but no one ever told me what had happened.
I helped mom take the cookies and milk to the living room. "Oh! Sorry, it's just that Daniel was hungry." Nicole said, we walked into her breastfeeding him. "Don't worry about it, it's okay! Babies have to eat." Mom smiled, placing the cookies on the coffee table. "Mind if I grab one? I haven't had time to sit down and eat." Nicole asked. "Of course, eat them all if you want." She smiled, Nicole smiles gratefully and bit onto a cookie, still holding Daniel for him to eat as well.
"I'll take little Noah upstairs for a nap, is that okay? He just seems a little tired." Mom said, Noah was starting to close his eyes as he laid in the car seat. "Sure, he does seem a little tired." Nicole nodded, and Mom took him upstairs to take a nap.
"Mama, can I have a cookie?" Delilah asked, eyes the size of saucers at the cookies the size of her head. "Sure, only one, okay? We will share a glass of milk." Nicole said, wrapping a cookie in a napkin and handing it to her.
"Nicole, can I ask you something?" I asked, taking Daniel from her arms after she burped him. "Go for it." She smiled, wiping her milk mustache. "How did your dad pass away?" I asked, her smile dropped. "Why?" She asked quietly, immediately closing up by looking down at her fingers. "I just want to connect with you more, just want to know a little more." I said, cradling Daniel in the crease of my elbow.
"Okay." She breathed shakily, squeezing her eyes shut. "My dad...he went fishing one day, every Sunday, like he always does. Remember I always used to go with him?" Nicole asked softly, I nodded. "One Sunday, he didn't want me to go with him. He said he wanted some alone time with him and nature." I could see her eyes glaze over with tears.
"There was a road right by the lake he always used to sit down to fish. The day he didn't want me to go, a giant Coca-Cola truck..hit him. It threw him into the lake, he drowned under the truck." Nicole began to weep quietly, she could barely finished the rest of her sentence. "Cry, it's okay." I whispered, setting Daniel in his car seat and holding Nicole close as she quietly cried.
"Mama, why are you crying?" Delilah asked softly, kissing her damp cheek. "I'm okay, it's nothing, don't worry about it, okay?" Nicole said, rising from my lap and kissing Delilahs forehead. "We will get going now, I'll start to take Delilah and Daniel to the car." Nicole said, standing up and carefully holding the handle of Daniels carseat. "Okay, I'll go up and get Noah." I said, kissing her cheek and jogging up the stairs to get Noah.
