When he finally got out about an hour later it was midnight.

He told me to follow him and now we're in his car and he's waiting for me to explain everything. So I did.

I started with why I left in the first place. It was hard but like I said...I'm tired of hiding things.

Right now is not the moment to be lying. Especially to him.

I told him about how I've just been with Eddie and how we made up and everything Steve and Dustin told us about this weird creature that did that to Patrick, Chrissy, and Fred.

Once I was finished I asked him how he knew where I was and apparently, he went calling everywhere to find me until he called the wheelers and Steve told him where I was.

He told him not to say anything to anyone and Zach agreed and that's when he came looking for us.

"Oh," is all I said after.

"So listen..I don't think it's a good idea to get involved with them."

I look up at him perplexed.

"I'm going to find Steve and Eddie. With or without you, Zach," I say sternly and he raises his brows in shock.

"I..I really care about him and if anything happens and I'm not there..I would never forgive myself."

He sighs and looks away. Ahead at the car window.

"I don't want anything to happen to you, Mary."

I felt bad. I know he cares about me but this is where I have to pick and the idea of sitting around hoping for the best seems worse to me than going over and finding him, possibly risking my life.

"I promised him," I say in a low voice.

I feel Zach turn to me.

"I'm sorry but I don't need your permission, Zach. I'm eighteen."

I look up and he looks upset.

I sigh and place my hand on him.

"I promised him..I'd find him," I say softly.

He keeps his eyes on me unsure.

Then looks away and sighs.

"Fine."

I open my eyes in shock.

"Really?"

"Yeah but uh- tomorrow."

I furrow my brows.

"Tomorrow?"

"Yeah. You need sleep. It's late but tomorrow I'll help you find them. Okay?"

I want to object but he's right. I need sleep if I'm going to find him. I'm going to need all the energy I can have.

"Okay," I say.

He smiles at me before starting the car and driving away.

When we get to his place he tells me I can sleep in his bed and I don't bother to argue.

When I was in the room alone I couldn't sleep at first. I kept tossing and turning. Wondering how he is. What he's doing. If he found some sort of shelter. If he's cold right now.

What if he's outside in the cold? What if he's in danger?

All the what-ifs were just swirling in my head for probably over two hours or so until I managed to fall asleep.

The next morning I woke up and the sun was shining. I got up and went to the living room to tell Zach that I'm ready to go find him. I wasn't about to waste a second.
