Chapter 9~ The Eclipse

~ The sun bared down at the Mountain, the Leaf-Fall wind rushing making the golden leaves sway.~ 

Adder'Flare padded over to the high rock where she sat peering down at Sun-Clan.

 Soon Owl'Star ran up the high rock, a worried look spread across her face.

 "All cats old enough to swim the rapid river join me under the high rock." Owl'Star called to her clan-mates.

 The cats gathered under the High Rock and looked up to their leader.

 "Psst-Clover'Pool, why does the leader look upset?" Cream'Paw asked quietly.

 "I'm not sure, let's find out." Clover'Pool whispered back, as she hushed the apprentice. 

"Today Moon-Clan has been caught trying to cross the borders and have declared they are taking the caverns. All warriors and apprentices please go to prepare. We are going to attack." Owl'Star said, before she looked down to Adder'Flare.

"Adder'Flare is our prey pile stocked?" Owl'Star paused to let Adder'Flare speak.

"Our fresh-kill pile is looking okay, we have enough prey for the clan. I'll ask Blossom'Foot to see if we need herbs." Adder'Flare said in return. 

"Meeting Dismissed, there will be no patrols today." Owl'Star jumped down from her perch and padded to the warrior den. 

Adder'Flare walked to the medicine den, as Violet'Paw ran past her with moss clamped in her maw.

 "Blossom'Foot?" Adder'Flare called, as she walked into the medicine den. 

"I'm over here!" Blossom'Foot called back, as she shook the herbs out of her fur.

"Are we good on herbs?" Adder'Flare asked, trying to avoid the herbs flying everywhere.

 "Yeah, almost good we just need some Horsetail-" 

"We're good on horsetail!"  Violet'Paw shouted to her mentor from outside the den.

"Oops- Never mind then," Blossom'Foot went back to sorting the herbs. 

"Alright, stay safe." Adder'Flare said before turning out of the medicine den and walking into the clearing to join Owl'Star under the high rock. 

"Owl'Star are we ready?" Adder'Flare asked.

"All cats ready for battle, join me at camp entrance!"

The cats gathered where Owl'Star had told them too, and Adder'Flare was at the back.

She watched as the leader bounded forward, all of her warriors right behind her.

They slowed their pace as a hill approached them, it's slopes scattered with rocks, and greenery.

They watched the patrol below, small mutters and hisses scattered the crowed of cats that sat waiting on the hill.

"Positions." Owl'Star whispered to her clan-mates, stalking forward.

The eight cats split up, each group on the sides of the patrol.

Time passed as Adder'Flare crouched there, waiting for the cue to attack. 

Just then Owl'Star yowled, and all of Sun-Clan's warriors leapt down the hill and began to attack.

 "ACK!"  A Moon-Clan warrior yelped, as  Adder'Flare pinned the she-cat, she looked to see she knew them their name, it was a gray warrior named River'Swoop.

She grabbed them by their scruff and dragged them into a patch of ferns, she felt bad.. but not that bad for killing her.

 Adder'Flare had killed two Moon-Clan warriors called Pine'Snarl and Eagle'Pelt.

Just then, a bloody screech was let out by Owl'Star,  "HELP! SOMEONE,HELP ME!" 

Adder'Flare looked to see the leaves were covered in red, she tried to look at her leader's body, but she was unable to.

"Owl'Star!" Adder'Flare rushed into the leaves to her leader's side, forcing tears to stream down her snout.

She didn't care that much, but her leader was a good one. She had brought Sun-Clan from nothing, to one of the greatest clans in the mountains. 

A tom bared his blood-soaked teeth, as he unsheathed his claws.

"Wave'Briar. You killed my leader... It's your turn to meet Star-Clan! If you can even make it in there!" Adder'Flare snarled threw her tears. 

Yet before she could attack him, he did first. 

He lunged at Adder'Flare's leg, as he bit down on her thigh, and dug his claws into her flank.

Adder'Flare snarled in pain, before grabbing the Moon-Clan warrior by the scruff and flinging him into a tree.

She looked at her leg to see the fur on her paw have been ripped off.

"You Flea-Brain!"  Adder'Flare was about to attack him, getting ready to pounce however someone, who was faster did just before she could. 

Python'Snap pounced onto Wave'Briar and clawed him in the neck, A heavy hissing sound came from the she-cat as she dug her claws into the toms flank.

"This battle is over, we won. You will forfeit, or else our clan will declare war on yours."  Python'Snap hissed, as she leap down onto the ground and pointing a paw at him.

Soon Sun-Clan's medicine den was overflowing.

"Move out of the way!" Blossom'Foot yelled, nudging cats out of her path.

Violet'Paw followed behind her with moss clamped in her maw. 

"Here you go, Adder'Flare." Violet'Paw smiled and wrapped her paw in moss, and cobwebs.

"Thank you." Adder'Flare smiled in return.

The sun was falling below the mountains, and the sky was a light shade of pink as it disappeared into the horizon.

During the night Adder'Flare and Blossom'Foot traveled to the Moonstone, they spoke for a while before Star-Clan accepted her as the new leader. 

Soon Adder'Flare limped onto the High-Rock. 

"All cats old enough to climb the mountain please join me under the high rock!" Adder'Flare called to her clan-mates. 

"Yesterday our leader Owl'Star died in the war." She said softly.

She gave the clan a moment of silence for the fallen leader.

 "From this day forth, you will call me Adder'Star." Adder'Star took a second before she started to talk again. 

"But we must get over our loss, and focus on what's truly important. And I need a deputy to help me, So If you think you are worthy to be deputy please step forward." Adder'Star said.

Gray'Fire, Python'Snap and Birch'Fall stepped forward.

Adder'Star looked at the three warriors, each of them were good choices.

"I say these words before the body of Owl'Star, that the spirits of our warrior ancestors may hear, and approve of my choice. The new deputy of Sun-Clan will be Python'Snap!" Adder'Star smiled at newly made deputy. 

 "You may join me on the high rock." Adder'Star said. 

 "Python'Snap! Python'Snap!!"  Gray'Fire cheered his clan-mate on, As the clan joined in.

~The sun began to set, as the trees swayed in the wind.~
