On the evening of August 2nd, a nasty rainstorm moved through New York, keeping hundreds off the streets. The light of the full moon was blocked by the dark clouds that trapped the city.

Walking out of the airport, my eyes wander around the view in front of me. My sister, Sakura leaned against one of the cars, offering me a grand smile. Laying my sunglasses, on the top of my head, I walk towards her.

"Hanako," She called out, pulling me for a hug.

I sighed into the hug, I hadn't seen her for two years and it was the longest we'd ever gone without talking in person. Sakura and I were very close, and we called each other every day. When she was older, she managed to move to America when she was 21 to get a job in New York. We were born in Japan and I transferred from a local university there to Colombia in New York. I learned English in Japan during primary school, and now, I'm fluent.

"アメリカはどうですか?" She asked, and I smiled at the memories. (How do you like America?)

"「信じられないほど素晴らしいものでした」," I said as she helped me with my suitcases. We entered the car, and put our seat belts on. (It is incredible, absolutely stunning)

"Does Oto-San still remember what I look like? I haven't been to Japan since I was 21," She asked, starting to drive. I used my hand to adjust her brown hair while nodding my head. "Of course, he still remembers what you look like. He finally put pictures of us around the house,"

"Really?"

"Yep," I muttered. Sakura giggled, moving the steering wheel to the left to take a turn. When I told my father (Oto-San) I wanted to move to America for college, he almost collapsed. But after years of convincing, I was finally free. I don't have any memory of my mother. My father said she died when she had me and that is all I know about her.

I've always loved books and literature. Ever since I was a little girl, I would write stories and read them to my fellow students in Japan. But I was disowned by my father, he only wanted me to cook and clean for my future husband. I didn't know how to tell him that I didn't want to get married. Instead, I wanted to focus on my career. Even though I'm studying English Language and Literature, I'm mainly here to get onto the tennis team.

Coach Ashley Mckinnon had seen some of my videos in Japan of me playing and she convinced me to apply to Colombia but she never actually recruited me. I was so thankful when I was accepted here because I knew I could further my tennis career while also getting an impressive diploma.

"So everyone is talking about this boxer," She said, while I texted my boyfriend, Akio who was still back home. A small blush made its way to my face as I giggled softly to myself at his sweet words.
