Chapter XXI

"Well, I'll be damned. Nikki Edwards. What are you doing here?", I turned to see Mercy looking at me. She was my classmate. I was excited to see that I at least knew one person. Finding friends in a new place was a struggle for me. "I got a job here as Head of operations", I said with a smile. "Good for you. See you around Nikki", she said walking into the private elevators. I was told that only Karim used them, but it was none of my business. I was directed to my office and even got an assistant. It was an amazing office. I called Abdul to share the good news and he decided to make it a video call. I showed him around and I was happy to see the smile on his face, I saw the pride on his face too and it felt amazing. "Holly molly! That's a very nice office Nikki", Zahra said looking at me with a smile. "Hey Zahra, I was about to call you after this. I need help with my work clothes", "I'm your person, tomorrow after work?", "Yes, tomorrow", "Ok then. Let me leave you two to it", she said walking away and it made me blush. "I'm proud of you babe", he said with a huge smile. "Thank you. I better get going, I have an online orientation", I said blowing him a kiss which he caught, making me giggle.

"Everyone, I like you to meet Nikki, our newest addition", Karim introduced me to other senior people in the meeting room. It was my first meeting and I was so nervous. Everyone was nice, except for Mercy, who I found out was Karim's secretary. "Hello everyone. It is nice to meet you all and I look forward to working with you", I said then sat down. They clapped for me, all but Mercy... again. What's her problem? The meeting went on with every head of the department presenting their progress. When the meeting was done, I was about to leave when Karim told me to stay behind. "Mercy, please give us a minute", "Sure thing Karim", she said cheerfully but he furrowed his brows as if daring her to repeat again, she cleared her throat, "I'm sorry, I meant to say Mr. Asghar", she said walking out of the meeting room looking terrified.

"What was that about?", I asked sitting next to him. He chuckled, "Well, It's difficult to find someone who can concentrate in my line of work. Believe me I've tried, she was my last resort", he said making me smile. "You mean women always try to seduce you?", I asked stating the obvious. That made him laugh just in time for Mercy to enter the office with another man who had a huge smile on his face. "Who's this beauty?", he said checking me out. He was on the tall side and buff. His blonde hair made his dark brown skin-pop. "Jax, this is our new Head of Operations. Nikki, this is my Vice president Jax Kuinton", he introduced us. "Oh, the brains that put you in your place. I like you already", he said offering me his hand to shake. "Apologies gentlemen, your meeting starts in five minutes. Nikki could you excuse us please?", Mercy said looking annoyed. "Mercy this is her meeting so, I suggest you cut the attitude and do what we pay you for", Jax said in a voice that made me tremble a bit. "Y-y-yes Sir", she replied then started arranging the files as Jax took a seat next to me. They gave me an overview of the business and where they needed my help, telling me that I had direct access to them at any time. I found out that they had been working together for over seven years, which explained how they were so close to each other.

By the time we were done, it was like 8 pm. I called an Uber, then went home hoping that Abdul was not asleep yet. Here is the thing, Abdul and I gossip a lot, I think I know half of his staff through gossip and I couldn't wait to tell him about Mercy and her attitude. I saw Khaled and Greyson's cars in the parking area. I didn't know they were coming tonight so I paid the driver and got in. I found Lucinda on the grill, thankful that I was not late for dinner I greeted her, then went to the living room where there was laughter, and everyone had a drink in hand.

"Hey guys!", I said and everyone turned to return the greeting. "Aaah Nikki!", someone shouted then hugged me. I could only laugh and hug back. "This is amaziiiing!", she said then pulled back, my eyes went wide as saucers. "Aaah Angela! What are you doing here?", I said hugging her back. My best friend from college, the world is so small. Finally, someone from the past actually likes me. "I'm here with my husband", she said with excitement. "What? Who?", I asked clearly confused because I knew Greyson was married to Renee. "Khaled silly", she said and I looked past her to see a shocked Khaled looking back at me. "Angie, this is your best friend from college?", he asked her as if I was not there. "Anhaa... this is amazing", she said jumping with excitement. "Ok Angela, I need to kiss my girl now", Abdul said coming between us. "Hey babe", he said seductively making me blush. I was still not used to showing affection when people were around, especially his friends. It was weird. Abdul didn't care. He kissed the hell out of me making me moan and hold onto his shoulders. "Might as well make babies in the living room too", Renee said walking in, making me smile into the kiss. "Hi Renee", I said trying to break free from Abdul unsuccessfully.

"Nikki, are these real?", Angela said squeezing my butt cheek. "Ouch!", I screamed making Abdul laugh. "They're real! How did this happen we haven't seen each other in what six years and suddenly you have this!", she asked surprised making Greyson and Renee laugh. Khaled just looked at her with amusement while Abdul kissed my shoulder. "Dinner is ready", Lucinda announced and I was thankful that the conversation moved from me to the food. "Where are the kids?", I asked Abdul. "They are at Zahra's, she wanted to spend time with them so I sent Claire with them too", he said shoving chicken in his mouth. "And your mother?", I asked worriedly. "Zahra has it under control. Don't worry ok?", he assured me.
