Abdul's POV
I can't believe I have been called to an emergency meeting to discuss an urgent matter only to find Layla with some man sitting opposite my parents and the family lawyer. I rolled my eyes as Layla's eyes met mine wondering what this was about. Things were finally falling into place and then this happens. "Good morning partner", Layla said with sarcasm making me raise a brow. Wondering what she meant by that. But our lawyer's snort made me smile. He got this.
Cade Anthony was a man of few words just like his father, they always had a way out of things. I was not surprised when I heard that his Father retired from his firm and handed it over to Cade. He is a true definition of legal. I have tried to be friends with him a couple of times but he's just too business with no play and as you know, my friends are the 'P' in play hard.
"Layla why are we here?", I asked letting my impatience get the best of me. Cade turned to look at me telling me to shush it. Oh! did I mention he doesn't know what humour is even if it was staring at him in the face? Yap, he is a robot. I remained silent allowing him to run the show. Mother looked very uncomfortable but Father was just pissed. I have never seen my Father this angry my whole life. I feel sorry for Layla at this point. The man who was with Layla placed a paper on the table directing it to Cade, he read through it then handed it over to Mother. "Fatima, do you recognise this paper?", he asked looking at her straight in the eyes as she agreed.
"With that confirmation. My client would like to present the following requirements", the man waited for a go-ahead from Cade who gestured for him to continue. "Miss Layla, is requesting a position in the company to participate in the growth of the business along with an office, accommodation at the location of her choosing and an office car", he finished. "Is that it?", Cade asked with a smirk, making the man nod uncomfortably. "Ok then. I am partly confused because according to the document you presented, the agreement is between Fatima and Layla so what does this have to do with the Qadir Transit company?", Cade asked looking genuinely lost making me snort. "Fatima has 30% shares in this company and that is what my client is here to claim ownership of, considering Fatima gave consent to it", he said looking like he was losing his temper. "No need to be impatient Mr...", "Lamar. My name is Mr. Lamar and I'm a certified attorney, which is why I do not appreciate it when someone assumes that I'm ignorant of what a signed contract stands for", he barked.
"Ok then, may I see evidence of Fatima having these shares?", Cade said calmly. Lamar gave him another document looking like a memorandum, Cade looked it over and it did have Mother's shares listed there. "Oh now I get it", Cade said, making Lamar smile. He looked like a winner already. "Mr. Lamar, there was a change in structure four years ago, that might have not been communicated to Fatima because she had no voting power which means, her decision had no majority effect on company direction which states that Fatima is not part of this company. Before you object and say we just came up with that, here is the updated memorandum along with emails that show the communication happening at the time that I mentioned. You can take it for future reference. We have the original, now if you'll excuse us, we will be on our way because my clients have some activities to attend to. I believe Layla knows her way out, she will help you", Cade said while standing up and buttoning his suit jacket, I did the same then we stepped out of the meeting room, heading to my office.
"Well, that was fun. May I know what is going on?", Cade asked while sitting on one of the armchairs. "How could I be so stupid and thought that she could be part of our family? I'm so ashamed of myself", Mother said making Father pull her in a hug, whispering sweet nothings to make her feel better. "I'm so sorry Abdul", she said to me. "It's ok Mum. It's in the past, let's not dwell on it", I assured her while pulling out my phone only to see a couple of missed calls from Nikki. She never calls unless it was urgent.
"Babe? You ok?", I asked but only heard shouting from the other end. I put the phone on the loudspeaker, hoping to hear properly. When I recognised the voice as Layla's I pressed record. "I will get Abdul, even if it means that I have to kill you and your little brats!", "Stay away from us Layla!", "Or what?", "Or I will tell Abdul that you threatened his pregnant wife and children", "Zahra! You're so pathetic. Using a surrogate because you can't have your own child. Yes, I know you were putting a fake tummy pretending you have a bun in the oven. Honey, you're just an infertile bitch!", there was fumbling with the phone that made me rush out the door, my parents and Cade following behind me.
We reached the ground floor only to see Inaya being pulled away from Layla by Nikki. She looked pissed and Layla's face was covered with scratches. "Inaya calm down. She's not worth it", Nikki said to a panting Inaya who still had her eyes on the target. "Leave me alone! I will sue you all", she said while Lamar dragged her out of the building. "Waoh Sis that was so badass", Zahra said patting Inaya on the shoulder. "Only you would find humour in this", Nikki said shaking her head just as I pulled her in a bear hug. "You're pregnant?", I asked in a whisper, she pulled away looking at me in shock. "How did you know that?", she asked. "Your phone is kinda on, so we listened in", I said gesturing to Father, Mother and Cade. "I... I... We just found out and we were coming to tell you", she said nervously but it all went away when she found my huge smile. "You're ok with it? We hadn't discussed it. I mean, I'm always on a pill so I don't know h-", I cut her rambling with a kiss. Making her melt into me until we heard someone clear their throat. Gosh, it's hard to focus when she is close to me.
