A/N: Next chapter will be a requested story <3
BEFORE WE START: This story takes place before Ben dies therefore Klaus and the Reader are teenagers. This also means Klaus may seem a little OOC, you just have to remember he's a young lad here.
READERS POV- 2ND PERSON:
You (unfortunately) have feelings for your best friend Klaus. There are only a few issues with this. 1) You don't want to ruin what you already have and 2) Klaus has been acting strange for the past couple weeks. Or should you say, stranger than normal. You've known Klaus for a few years now which has allowed you to gather some information on him and his siblings. Like how his family is... odd and sometimes speaks about things you could only dream of understanding or how Reginald seems to always be hiding something.
Regarding Klaus, as of late, he's been extremely jumpy and tends to ignore whoever's talking to him. Instead, he chooses to stare vacantly just past them. Almost as if he's looking at something completely different or something not truly there. Every time you look behind yourself to see if somethings possibly there, you see nothing. Nothing but dead space and whatever furniture happens to be there at the time.
You find yourself growing more and more worried as the days continue passing. Klaus has only become, what you can describe as, extremely paranoid. Reginald has also grown more and more angry towards all the siblings. The stubborn man going so far as to not allow you in his home at some points. You finally decide enough is enough. You want your best friend back and you'll do whatever it takes to do so.
TIME SKIP- CONFRONTING:
Today's the day. Today's the day where you make Klaus fess up to whatever's been going on with him. Hopefully gaining at LEAST his friendship back (though you wouldn't mind another confession from him as well).
You make your way to the Hargreeves mansion with a slight pep in your step, you're confident that you'll be able to figure out what's been going on with your friend. You finally reach the door to the huge building and rapidly knock three times. To your immense shock, it abruptly swings open to reveal a distraught looking Ben.
The sight of him quickly drops all confidence you've ever had about this confrontation. You rush inside, spewing words as you go, "Ben what the heck is going on? Are you okay?" Ben is nodding the entire time you're speaking as if to say, 'don't worry about me.' "It's not me, it's Klaus!" His breath is coming out in short pants, almost like he just finished running a marathon. You take in his response causing your stomach drop. "Klaus? What's wrong with Klaus? Is he okay?" Your words are frantic and probably not helping with the panic clearly building inside Ben.
He looks conflicted for a moment before mumbling, "just follow me". He begins walking away before you can respond leaving you to rush after him. "Ben, could you please explain what's happening right now!" He says nothing for a brief moment though he never stops walking. After a short silence he finally decides to break it. "It's not my place to explain, just know Klaus needs you right now." You decide to not question him anymore as he probably wouldn't give you a clear answer anyways.
Eventually, you come to a halt in front of Klaus' bedroom door. Ben's breath is still irregular causing yours to speed up in turn. You're nervous about what you'll see behind the door. 'Is he hurt?' 'Crying?' 'DEAD?!' You dismiss the final thought; Ben would've definitely told you if he'd been dead the whole time. While distracted, Ben begins to open the door. The creaking of the wood snaps you out of your spiraling thoughts.
Inside the room is pitch black. It takes a second but when your eyes finally adjust you can see Klaus sitting in the corner of his room, shaking, and whispering to himself. The sight breaks your heart. You can't help yourself as you rush over to him immediately, just for him to flinch back in surprise. Your hands subconsciously go up in surrender. "It's just me Klaus, just Y/N." Your voice is loud compared to everything else in the stale room. His eyes flick towards you for a moment before averting to frantically move around the room. You try again, "Klaus! Please I'm worried about you... what's going on?" You turn to look back at Ben, only for him to have disappeared back from which he came. 'So much for the assist', you can't help from thinking.
You catch Klaus' figure shifting out the corner of your eye and you swiftly turn your full attention back to him. He's thankfully now looking you in the eye, though he still looks incredibly scared. "Y/N?" He finally whispers. "Yes, yes Klaus it's me, Y/N. Are you okay?!" He immediately shakes his head. "Too many ghosts too many voices, it won't stop." He looks miserable upon uttering this, but his words only serve to bring more questions to mind.
"Ghosts? What ghosts Klaus?" "The ghosts they're everywhere... I've been able to see them my whole life. My dad locks me away to bring them out." His words bring tears to his eyes before he flinches at something behind you once more. You decide then and there that you don't care if he can see ghosts, you're helping your friend get through this.
You shift yourself so that you're blocking his view from whatever is scaring him, giving him a soft smile all the while. You hesitantly place your hands over his. He startles for a moment before relaxing and grasping your hands in his. "You can't let them scare you Klaus, they'll get more of a thrill from it. Don't let them control you anymore... I believe in you!" Your words seem to have a positive effect on him as he continues to relax. You go on, "I know you're scared, but you have people who love and care about you. The ghosts can't do anything to hurt you if they're around." Klaus' body has finally un tensed and he smiles shyly at you. "Thanks Y/N... they're pretty quiet now. Did you mean what you said?" "What part? I meant everything I said Klaus." He bites his lip before responding, "did you mean what you said about people loving and caring for me... are you one of those people?"
You blink in surprise, of course out of everything you said he chooses to focus on the one embarrassing claim you uttered. You can't deny his question though... you do love and care for him more than anything/anyone else. "Of course, I love and care for you Klaus... you-you mean a lot to me", you manage to stutter out as your face turns red from how nervous you are to hear his response. Klaus laughs loud and bright at your words, all fear and sadness gone from his expression. Only pure joy remains. "That's great! I love and care for you too you know?" You stare with wide eyes. "Really?" "Yes really!" Now you're both laughing, you out of relief and Klaus out of happiness. You watch as he dusts himself off before standing with a hand outstretched to you. "Now how about we do something that's not sitting on this musty floor?" You only smile before taking his hand in yours, intertwining your fates forevermore.
