PRESENT TIME

"Good evening, Mr. Thomson," greeted my companion to my dad, as if nothing had happened between us earlier. "Sad to say, but I have to go home already. I just sent Miguel here, and we already cleared all the stuff about the company."

"HA-HA-HA-HA!" My dad laughed first before thanking him. "Thank you, Liam."

Liam smiled at him and nodded in respect. "I have to go." Liam said his farewell, then glanced at me, smiling for a moment before turning away and walking off.

~

A week had passed since that moment, and everything Liam said to me still echoed in my mind. Those words remained with me, and even at the office, they were the only things I could think about.

A mixture of nervousness, happiness, sadness, frustration, and confusion played in my heart and mind. It was as if I couldn't get any peace, not even in my dreams or when I was taking a shower.

The things Liam had said to me kept resurfacing, along with memories that had come to mind. Those thoughts were enough to prevent me from focusing on anything. I had documents that weren't signed properly, some I signed too much, while others I didn't mark correctly.

Over the course of that week, nothing changed in our interactions. Liam treated me kindly, but there was still a wall between us. I couldn't figure out if it was because of some kind of resentment or just my own confusion.

Mixed emotions, all throughout.

I'm grateful to be a part of this journey; becoming a CEO's secretary is the most challenging role I've ever had, and it's my first time. It's sad, though, because I only have one week left with Liam before I have to go back to school. My vacation was over, and I had to say my proper goodbyes to him.

"This will be my last week here, as your secretary, sir," I said while looking down.

"Going back to school, right?" Liam replied.

I nodded as an answer.

"I won't say much more. Since that's still next week, and I know a lot can happen within this week."

"Yeah, just an early farewell message for you, sir."

"I'm not going to take that as a farewell message. I know you'll be back here and will make another deal with me."

"We'll see. But for now, I just want to remind you about the meeting you're handling later." I smirked, waiting for his response, but none came.

He stood up from his chair and walked toward the window. A few minutes passed before he turned to face me again, his gaze fixed on mine.

"You know the most beautiful thing that happens to a person, Miguel?" he asked, and I smiled while simply looking at him. "It's when you meet people you've been expecting in the first place." He added, looking at my hand. "But you know what the most painful part is?"

"When they leave unexpectedly, even though you thought they would stay longer, and they have no choice but to leave," I answered, speaking from my own experience.

"No," he replied, shaking his head. "That's not the most painful part. It's when you leave someone knowing that you might hurt their feelings."

"Maybe they don't mean to hurt you."

"Maybe. You know, it's actually normal. I'm used to it, and I'm always ready for it." He looked away, then spoke again. "I'm not going to hire a new secretary, Miguel."

"You're the one who decides. As long as you can handle things on your own."

"Yeah," was his brief reply, and he turned back to his chair. "Did you bring your car?"
