"Well," Dean said, shifting the car into park. "We're here. I'm thinkin we'll hit up all the clothes shops, come drop the bags off here, then we'll get you some new shoes, and head to 'Target' and get some other necessities... then I have somewhere else I wanna take you before we head home.''
"Okay.. but I do-"
"Don't worry about anything other than finding some clothes you actually like, that will actually fit you right now. We live in a three-income house, we don't have that many bills, I'm not worried about money, go wild kid.", Dean said, pulling him into the mall before he could protest. "So where to first, this is like the biggest mall here, so we have a million options, but you definitely need some warm clothes too."
"Umm... I'm not sure, can we just walk around until I see something. I've never really been shopping. Luke bought all my old clothes, other than what I got after I left."
"Yeah, whatever you wanna do. I'm just here to make sure you won't freeze to death." Dean replied. They walked around for a while, eventually finding a few stores the kid liked. By the time they were walking back to the car, he had a few new pairs of jeans, some sweatpants, pajama bottoms, more crewneck sweaters, hoodies, and some t-shirts from 'Hottopic'. Dean had only ever been there a few times with Claire, he always felt very awkward, but he had to say they did have some cool shirts. He may have snuck a few of his own into the pile. The kid also made it out with some new boxers, socks and a tan 'Carrhart' jacket that Dean insisted wasn't warm enough, but gave in, deciding he would just get him another at some point.
After dropping off the clothes, they pulled to the other side of the mall, where a lot of the shoe stores were, they decided to hit the 'Journey's' for some sneakers, and another random shoe store for some boots. He picked out two pairs of 'Vans', yellow and maroon, as well as a pair of white 'Converse'. Then they went to the other store for boots. He wasn't sure what to get, so he trusted Dean's judgment, and got a pair of brown "all weather" boots. Finally, they were done at the mall. On the way to target, Dean decided they needed a coffee break. They parked down the block from the coffee shop, and started their walk. Halfway there, the kid quickly grabbed Dean's hand, squeezing it tight and hung his head.
"Woah there, you okay?", he asked, not daring to take his hand back. The kid looked up, a panicked expression on his face. "What is it?", he asked again.
"I know him.", he said quietly, nodding his head toward the guy standing against the wall on the other side of the shop.
"It's okay kid, nothing's gonna happen. I got you.", Dean said, putting his arm around the kid, pulling him into his side, continuing down the street.
"Oh, Jessie! Is that you?", the man chuckled. "Aww, you got a bodyguard now? Who woulda thought we'd end up in the same place again."
"Dean...", he whispered.
"Hey, he's talking to Jessie, that's not you right?", he responded, trying to get to the door a bit quicker. When he looked back over, the guy was walking towards them.
"I'm talking to you bitch, you know better than to ignore me!", he yelled. "Tell your little bodyguard to back off!", he yelled again, this time only about four feet away. " Alright," he was face to face with Dean now. "She's mine, you hear me, I don't want to cause a problem here. Just hand her over, and we'll be on our way.", he said through his teeth, reaching towards the kid.
"Go inside.", Dean said looking at the terrified teen next to him. He just stared back. "I said go inside!", he shouted, hoping he didn't think he was yelling at him. Slowly, he backed up and stepped toward the shop. The guy reached out again, grabbing his shoulder this time. At this point, he saw red. "Nope, I'm done trying to be civil you asshole." Before he even realized it, he grabbed the guy's arm, pulled him off of the kid, and had him pinned to the brick wall by his throat. "Alright man, I don't know what the fuck you're problem is, but I swear to got if you lay another fucking finger on him you won't have any left - and if I ever catch you pulling that shit with anyone else, you're dead. You got that?" The guy rolled his eyes. Dean pulled him back, and slammed him back against the wall, this time, hard enough to inflict some real pain. "I said you got that." The man nodded. "Great, now get the hell out of here." Dean released his grip, and the man ran away. He turned around, grabbed the kids arm and pulled into a protective half hug, leading him inside to a table. He pulled out a seat, and the kid sat down, eyes still wide open in shock. Dean slowly knelt down in front of him, placing a hand on his knee.
"You okay kid?" he asked. The kid slowly nodded. "You wanna tell me who that was?" he shook his head. "Alright, I'm gonna go get us some coffee.", he stood up, and turned to walk to the register. Before he was out of reach, the boy grabbed his wrist, getting up to walk with him. "Okay, let's go then." When they got up to the line, Dean pulled him in front of him, resting a hand on each shoulder, as if to protect him from anyone around. Dean ordered two black coffees, then the barista asked them for their names. The kid looked up to Dean, not knowing what to say. "You can just put them both under Dean.", he said with a wink. Then they walked to the pickup bar, dean leaned down and whispered, "Don't go mentioning that little wink to Cas, alright?". The kid smiled a little in response, then suddenly turned around. The next thing Dean knew, there were two arms wrapped around his waist.
"Thank you Dean, for everything.", he whispered. Dean wrapped his arms around the kid, leaning down again.
"You don't need to thank me, I'm sorry if I scared you out there kid, I just saw red when he reached for you.", he whispered.
"It's okay.", he responded, still hugging Dean.
"I have two, black, for Dean."
"Alright, let's go sit, maybe talk a bit.", he said, grabbing the coffees and some sugar packets.
