Hua Cheng had been acting... a bit unusual, recently.
At first, it wasn't so obvious and Xie Lian was willing to brush it off easily enough. Certainly, it had to be because of the stress of all his assignments and projects getting to him.
Xie Lian was sure that it would pass eventually and Hua Cheng would return to normal soon enough.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like that would be happening any time soon as things started to get worse and worse the more time passed—so much so that Xie Lian was beginning to get seriously concerned now.
It started off tamely enough with Hua Cheng simply becoming a bit more pushy with his affection, getting needier the busier Xie Lian got.
That wasn't so bad in the beginning. After all, the two of them had been friends since the start of the semester and Xie Lian was used to most of his friend's antics by now.
Xie Lian was a few years older than Hua Cheng—in his final year of university whereas Hua Cheng was in his second year. They didn't share any classes together due to that but they still managed to spend time together during the weekends.
When they first ran into each other, it was almost surprising how well the two hit it off together. The way they got along with each other was perfect for Xie Lian.
Hua Cheng was kind, sweet and respectful. It was also a huge contrast to others considering how thoughtful he was around Xie Lian yet more than a little intimidating and off-putting to everyone else.
Xie Lian didn't mind that aspect of his personality but he was seriously starting to reconsider the respectful part. It was because ever since Xie Lian had come back from holidays, he'd noticed Hua Cheng lingering around his apartment complex more and more.
Even more odd was the fact that he'd always show up in the areas Xie Lian frequented and act as if it was purely a coincidence that the two ran into each other.
Xie Lian was willing to go along with it at first but he realised that he should be getting more suspicious the more often it started to occur.
There were times where he thought about confronting Hua Cheng but then he'd always feel bad because he couldn't just put his friend on the spot like that. Despite it all, Xie Lian was the only friend he had in the university.
It would still be great if he stopped tailing him, though.
Even now, as Xie Lian had been heading to the convenience store, he'd seen a sleek car strikingly similar to the one Hua Cheng owned following him.
It had made him uneasy but he'd pretended not to notice even though he'd seriously considered turning around and demanding Hua Cheng for answers.
In the end, the anxiety of the confrontation prevented him from facing Hua Cheng and he'd simply forced himself to continue walking to the store.
No one knew about this. Xie Lian knows that if he told his friends about it, they'd most likely overreact and suggest reporting Hua Cheng to the police which—it wasn't ideal.
At the end of the day, if he disregarded the weird behaviour Hua Cheng had been exhibiting lately, he was still Xie Lian's friend who he adored very much. Xie Lian couldn't bring himself to hurt him in any way.
With an exhausted sigh, Xie Lian picks up a can of coffee and tries to distract himself.
A glance at his shopping list reveals the several items he needs to buy.
Xie Lian needs to stock his fridge as soon as possible lest he starve over the course of the following week. The deadline of submitting his thesis is approaching and it won't allow him to run any sort of errands until he's submitted his project.
