"Gege~" Hua Cheng slumps over Xie Lian's back, leaning his full weight and wrapping his arms around Xie Lian's shoulders. "Tell me again why we have to help that bastard excuse of a god, again?"
Xie Lian laughs. He tries to chide Hua Cheng for the childish behavior with an admonishing "San Lang", but it has no bite and comes out more fond than anything else.
"His Highness Tai Hua doesn't have any experience in going into another's dreamscape. But the two of us do, after dealing with the Brocade Immortal." Xie Lian tries, for the third time, to convince Hua Cheng that they are, in fact, needed.
Hua Cheng scoffs. "That's still not reason enough. He should learn on his own. At some point that child needs to stop relying on you. Especially after all of the pain he caused you."
Every time Hua Cheng remembers what that trash did to Xie Lian — the horrifying way in which Lang Qianqiu attempted to murder Xie Lian, then known as the Guoshi Fangxin — he thinks about paying the heavens another visit and snapping that god's neck. Hua Cheng only holds back because Xie Lian doesn't let him.
Xie Lian twists in Hua Cheng's arms and hugs him tightly. "Thank you, San Lang. But it's okay. It's also my duty as a Heaven Official to help. Besides..."
Xie Lian pulls away, a smile curled on his lips even as Hua Cheng grumbles in protest. There's a glint of excitement in Xie Lian's eyes that Hua Cheng instantly recognizes. Someone less familiar with Xie Lian would so easily miss it; but Hua Cheng has imprinted in his memory every quirk of his beloved, and would notice even the most seemingly imperceptible change in his expression.
The blush on Xie Lian's cheeks is further evidence of where his thoughts wander to. "It was kind of fun, last time."
Hua Cheng smirks. "Oh? How so?"
"Well," Xie Lian cups Hua Cheng's cheeks. "Seeing that version of you, stealing me away like that..."
Hua Cheng's hands naturally move to rest on Xie Lian's waist. "Did gege enjoy being thrown over my shoulder?"
"San Lang..." Xie Lian pouts. "I'm just saying, it might be fun..."
Hua Cheng picks up on what Xie Lian is implying. "For us."
Xie Lian nods lightly.
If they weren't already expected, Hua Cheng would have rather hauled Xie Lian over his shoulder once more and taken them to the inner chambers of Paradise Manor, right there and then.
"Fine. But you have to promise not to do anything reckless."
Xie Lian smiles. "Promise. And you have to promise not, either."
"Deal." Hua Cheng grins.

"Guo- I mean, Your Highness." Lang Qianqiu bows his head awkwardly.
"Your Highness," Xie Lian returns the greeting. When Xie Lian sees Lang Qianqiu eyeing Hua Cheng wearily, he adds, "San Lang is here to help us create the dream realm."
Lang Qianqiu nods. Though he looks no less uncomfortable with Hua Cheng's presence.
Good.
Hua Cheng holds back punching him in the face. Instead, he turns all of his attention to Xie Lian. "We should get going, gege."
"En. Best to dispel the resentment before anyone else is harmed."
They are there to dispel the resentment of an ancient ghost from the days of Yong'an. The ghost had been possessing villagers and wreaking havoc by attacking innocent people. But because he possessed the body of a villager at some point, they very well could not kill them. And since Xie Lian and Hua Cheng weren't allowed to use the same methods they tried on Qi Rong, this was unfortunately their only option.
