"Where's the sunscreen?"

Xie Lian rummages through the different bags piled on the towels below the umbrella. "Did Qingxuan take it? San Lang, have you seen the sunscreen?"

Hua Cheng, pretending to read behind his tinted sunglasses but actually staring at his sweet boyfriend moving around half-naked on the sand, hums pensively. "No, I don't know where it is. Why are you looking for it, though? You already put on some earlier when we arrived."

"Yeah, and you didn't," Xie Lian replies flatly as he puts away one bag and opens a new one. "You need to reapply it regularly anyway."

"But I don't need to, I'm in the shade."

Xie Lian stops his fumbling and turns to him, hands on his hips. Hua Cheng looks up with a smile, admiring the view, the contrast between the blue fabric of Xie Lian's swim trunks and the golden skin of his strong thighs and hands.

"You really need some. San Lang, you're so pale. The sun will move eventually, and you're not gonna stay under the parasol all day."

"But I—"

"It's non-negotiable," Xie Lian cuts in as he goes back to his search. "Ugh, it's not here," he says after a moment. "I'm going back to the shed to see if we left it there."

He leaves immediately, waddling away on the sand. Hua Cheng looks for a few more seconds before leaving his un-read book in favor of following his boyfriend, a sly smile on his lips.

When he catches up, Xie Lian is already inside, the open door the only source of light in the dark space, save for some cracks in the wood filtering the scorching sun. Hua Cheng quickly joins him and pushes the door behind him to close it, not entirely but enough that the light doesn't reach him.

"Huh? Oh, San Lang, it's you." Xie Lian is looking around for the sunscreen. "Do you see it anywhere?"

Hua Cheng catches it easily. It was on a shelf to the left of the door. "Here, gege."

Xie Lian's smile is brighter than the sun when it catches on a ray of light hitting his face perfectly. Hua Cheng stares. "Thank you," Xie Lian says, and takes the sunscreen along with Hua Cheng's hand, to tug him closer, and Hua Cheng stumbles forward, caught off-guard, stopping short of colliding with Xie Lian's chest.

"Turn around."

He blinks before smirking—but he complies.

"How forward, gege," he teases.

He can't see but imagines very well the look on Xie Lian's face. "... San Lang!"

Hua Cheng doesn't have time to reply before a lukewarm liquid is poured onto his back and Xie Lian is spreading it everywhere.

"Here. I'll use a lot so that your skin doesn't burn. It's already so warm..."

"I naturally get warm when I see gege, and when gege touches me I get even hotter."

Xie Lian doesn't reply, but his hands work a little more roughly on his back, making Hua Cheng smile. When he's done, he doesn't ask Hua Cheng to turn around again and instead turns him himself, pulling him by the shoulders to face him. Without a word, he pours a good amount of white cream onto his fingers and spreads it on Hua Cheng's chest, starting with his shoulders and collarbones.

It's only when he accidentally rubs against Hua Cheng's nipple, making him flinch lightly, that Xie Lian snaps out of it and realizes what he's been doing. Quickly, awkwardly, he hands the sunscreen to Hua Cheng. "Sorry, haha. I know you can do it yourself."
