McCall House ~ Leo's Room

Leo and Lydia are practicing hand-to-hand combat. "Arms up. This way, you can block attacks to your face and your head while always keeping your eyes on your enemy." Leo said. Lydia nodded. "Ready?" Leo asked. They spar, and Leo tags her. "It's all right. You're not going to be perfect after only a few tries." Leo said. "I'm okay. Keep going." Lydia said. "You sure? Maybe we should stop after a few." Leo said. "Why?" Lydia asked. "I don't want your stitches to get un-stitched." Leo said. "They're fine." Lydia said.Lydia pulls up her shirt and shows him the dressing with no visible blood. "See? No blood." Lydia said. Leo couldn't help but stare a little before snapping out of his daydream. Lydia tosses her shirt aside, and Leo takes off his hoodie.

"Ready when you are." Lydia said. They try again, and this time Parrish is able to grab her and pull her in close. "What did you do wrong?" Leo asked. "Uh... I forgot to keep my arms up." Lydia said. "Right. But don't worry-- your muscles have memory. With enough practice, they'll remember for you." Leo said. Lydia leans back against him, and they both become conscious of being pressed against one another in an embrace. Lydia suddenly has a flash of a Doctor's hand on her arm and then being surrounded by them during her surgery. She makes a pained sound and pulls away from him. She can see her photocopy of The Dread Doctors sticking out of her bag across the room. "What's wrong? What is it?" Leo asked. "Muscle memory..." Lydia said.

Later

The pack are all at Scott's house with copies of the book on the table. "My mom's book club usually has more wine." Lydia said. "Well, they also probably didn't read books that cause violent hallucinations..." Stiles said. "That's why Malia's here." Leo said. "So none of us go running into traffic?" Kira asked. "Or worse." Scott said. "Like what happened to Judy." Malia said. Everyone looked at her confused. "Chapter fourteen." Malia said. Everyone nodded. "Maybe I should have my mother read it. She might remember a girl with a tail leaping off the ceiling and attacking everyone." Lydia said. "Yeah, if it works..." Leo said.

"It has to." Lydia said. "What does that mean?" Scott asked. "I think I saw them during my surgery. When I look at the cover of the book, it's almost like..." Lydia said. "A memory trying to surface." Theo said. "Yeah." Lydia said. "Isn't that what Valack wanted when he wrote it?" Kira asked. "If they did something to me, I want to know what it is." Lydia said. They all take a copy and start reading. As Leo read the pages, his mind started to feel foggy. Like, parts of his brain were being blocked off. Scott has difficulty concentrating. Kira's vision keeps blurring, like the words are underwater. "Anyone feel any thing yet?" Scott asked.

"Tired." Kira said. "Hungry." Lydia said. "All of the above." Leo said. "I think he meant the book..." Theo said. Leo chuckled lightly before he continued to read his copy. A few minutes later, Kira started to fall asleep. "You're not giving up, are you?" Scott asked. "Just resting my eyes..." Kira said.

Later

Everyone but Theo has fallen asleep while reading the novel; Lydia dozing while sitting back in the armchair, Stiles seated on the floor with his head resting on a pillow placed on Malia's legs as Malia lays scrunched up in the fetal position on half the couch, her hood up over her face while Scott sits sprawled next to her on the other end of the couch. Leo was on the floor next to Lydia, his head resting on her leg and his copy of the book in his hand. Theo watches with an intrigued expression, ensuring that everyone is truly asleep before walking up the stairs to the second floor. He gently opens the door to Scott's room, where Kira has fallen asleep on his bed with the book resting next to her.

After a moment, Theo realizes that Kira is mumbling in her sleep and takes his phone out of his pocket so he can record her voice on audio. "Watashi... wa shi... no shisha... da... Watashi wa... shi no... shishada..." Kira said weakly.
