WARNING: Blood, minor character deaths, Remus is a bit of a sadist, sexual references, innuendos, etc, slightly possessive Janus
There was something about battle that set Remus' blood on fire.
The harsh clash of swords, metal on metal, accompanied by gunfire and the sounds of dying men... It was like a symphony. Sweet music to his ears.
The feeling of blood on his hands - blood he willingly put there - made him laugh with joy. To watch the light leave his enemy's eyes never failed to make him smile.
Some would call him insane. They probably wouldn't live to finish the sentence. If he didn't kill them, his First Mate definitely would.
Which brought his mind back to the battle. He twisted his cutlass in the gut of the man he was fighting (he couldn't be bothered to know his name) and pulled it back. The man fell to the floor at Remus' feet.
"What a perfect footstool," Remus thought. He stepped onto the dying man, raising his blood-soaked cutlass to catch the attention of his crew. The man screamed in pain, bringing another smile to Remus' face.
"Keep the front up!" He yelled to his brother. Roman grinned and nodded. "I'm going to reclaim what's mine!"
"Don't be too long!" Roman called back to him. Remus laughed, lept off the dead man and turned to the cave.
A man ran at him, yelling something about revenge. Remus pulled his musket out and shot him through the head without even looking. He spared the body a glance as it fell.
"What a waste of a good face," he mused to himself. "Shame."
Strolling through the dank cave passages, Remus whistled a piercing tune to himself. He'd never been much of a musician but it was fun.
"My heart is pierced by Cupid..." Remus tapped the butt of his cutlass along the walls as he sang, "I distain all glittering gold... nothing can console me but my-"
"Hold it." The click of a musket made Remus stop in his tracks. "Hands in the air." Remus raised his hands as he was told. "Turn around. Slowly."
Remus pivoted around on his heels. He was faced with a trembling teenager of maybe 16, holding a trembling musket in their trembling hand. He raised an eyebrow and laughed.
"Don't laugh at me!" The child gripped the musket with both hands in an attempt to stop it shaking.
"This is the cavalry?" Remus asked. He let out a hoot of laughter, dropping his cutlass in order to double over with laughter. "This is all the great Lucifaz can provide me?! A child with a gun they hardly know how to use?"
The child pulled the flint back on the musket again. "I'm not with Lucifaz," they said shakily. "Privateer Richard Jones of the Royal Navy-"
"No one cares, kid." Remus bent to pick up his cutlass. Richard turned the musket on him, making him laugh even harder. "Who are they hiring in the Navy now, anyway? You look barely old enough to stop sucking on your mum's tit." He pointed at the boy with his cutlass. "You know, the real money's in piracy. I mean, look at me."
"You're a criminal."
"A very well-off criminal," Remus corrected. "Now, let's look at this logically. You've got spirit and loyalty. I could use some of that in my crew. And I have money. Lots of it." Remus tucked his cutlass under his arm and held his hand out towards the child. "Whatcha say? Join me?"
Richard clutched the musket even harder. "Over your dead body."
Remus looked past Richard's shoulder and grinned. "Oh, I wouldn't be so sure of that, kid."
"Wha-" A tap on his shoulder made Richard turn around.
Janus punched him in the face. The boy crumpled to the floor, the gun going off and firing harmlessly down another passage.
Janus threw his hair out of his eyes and met Remus' gaze, pressing a kiss to his own bruised knuckles. "Took you long enough."
"I assumed you could handle things yourself." Remus stepped over the unconscious boy and took Janus' hand. "Please, allow me." He bent and pressed a kiss to Janus' knuckles, smirking.
Janus raised an eyebrow. "Next time I get kidnapped," he said, pulling his hand out of Remus', "I would prefer you come for me a little faster. Captain."
That also set Remus' blood on fire.
Remus closed his eyes and took a second to recollect himself. "Ro told us not to be long, sweetheart," he said. "I wouldn't suggest playing any tricks with me."
"Or what? You're gonna tie me up again?" Janus rubbed his wrists absent-mindedly. "If I remember correctly, that was quite enjoyable last time."
Remus glanced down at the boy. "We should probably do something about him first." He nudged Richard with his toe. Janus shook his head.
"Leave it to me." Janus pulled the musket from Richard's hand, pulled the flint back and shot him through the chest. He threw the musket onto his chest and turned back to Remus.
He dusted his hands off. "Been wanting to shoot someone for days," he said. "Now, back to this." He grabbed Remus by the front of his shirt and dragged him forwards, so their noses brushed. "Unless you have any other objections, Captain?"
"You keep calling me that and there's going to be trouble."
Janus ghosted a hand over Remus' hip and pulled him even closer. "Oh, I live in fear," he said sarcastically. "As if you're really in charge right now." He tilted his head slightly. "We all know who the power behind the thrown really is."
Janus kissed him and Remus practically melted. If Janus hadn't been holding him up by his shirt, he would've fallen to his knees right there and then. His hands fumbled helplessly around Janus' waist and he pulled him closer. He wanted a closeness to Janus even thin layers of clothes denied him.
Janus pulled back. "Feeling eager today, aren't we, Rem?"
If there was anything Remus liked to hear Janus say more than 'Captain' it was that. He tipped his head back, not answering. He didn't trust himself to answer.
Janus could probably feel Remus' answer anyway.
"So, what was your excuse for coming to 'rescue' me this time?" Janus asked. He lifted his hand from Remus' shirt to pull his head back down. He ran a gentle thumb over Remus' chin. "You haven't shaved," he murmured. It drove Remus crazy.
Remus swallowed. "Reclaiming what's mine," he stammered. "I don't think they'd believe anything else at this point."
"What's yours, huh?" Janus asked, still in the same murmured, musing tone. Remus felt about ready to crumble there and then. "Rem, you are cute. I'm what's yours... Very cute. I think we both know who belongs to who at this point."
I can't believe I wrote this, I can't believe I wrote, this I can't believe I wrote this.
I have fallen so far.
Bye,
Blaize
