Natasha's POV:
I see y/n storm out of the conference room, through the living room, and towards the elevator; I see Wanda nudge Barnes and I begin to stand up, but Bucky puts his hand on his shoulder and says, "I'll check on her," which I deny and snap back, "She's my girlfriend, asshat, I'll check on her."
"I believe it's better if Buck goes, Yelena I think you should go too." Wanda says, pointing to her forehead. "She needs her friends." Is she suggesting that just because we're together doesn't mean we can't be friends? "No, Natasha, that's not what I'm saying; I'm just concerned she'll say or do something she'll regret." Wanda says clearly reading my mind, Bitch. She just looks at me and laughs, "Come on Nat lets get a start on dinner, you can talk to her later" Wanda says ushering me to the kitchen.
I begrudgingly followed her as she began taking out utensils and veg for dinner, I moved to assist her, but she immediately stopped me, sending sparks my way and causing me to step back "Sit over there, we don't need you burning the tower down." She said knowing all too well what happens when I try to cook, so I give up and take a seat saying, "What's going on with y/n?" and she takes a moment to think before slowly saying "It's not for me to say, but she got some unexpected news"
Y/n's POV:
I'm sat upon the rooftop watching the tiny cars wiz by as I mull everything over in my head, here I thought fury was going to offer me a spot on the team or tell me off for getting with Natasha. How dare he drop that on me.
From up here, everything seems so insignificant, the people hurrying home down the city's twisting roads to be with their families resembling children racing cars over a toy track, it's difficult to believe that those little planes that pass above, transport hundreds of people on each journey all while appearing to be a fly in the sky. People could be filming my next favourite movie, someone's soulmate could be born, someone could be discovering a fucking cure for cancer right now, and I'm sitting here wallowing in self-pity because one man informed me everything, I thought was wrong.
But my thoughts are immediately interrupted by the reflection of two familiar figures in the fire escape. "I'm not in the mood guys," I respond, before hearing a thick Russian accent reply, "We don't have to talk y/n" and bucky adds "just let us be with you." I nod and they come over to settle on either side of me. We sit in silence for what feels like an eternity but was actually just a minute or two before I speak up, "It was all a lie," I say as I raise my knees up to lay my head on. The two say nothing, they just sit there and let me think. That was all I needed.
----
We sit there for a while longer before the silence is broken by the familiar robot voice of Jarvis alerting us to dinner. We make our way down to the kitchen in silence to be met with sympathetic faces, I take a seat in the empty chair next to Nat and she reassuringly rubs my back. We don't say a word but exchange gentle smiles before turning our attention back to the food, I feel her eyes which I ignore on me occasionally throughout dinner as everyone chats. We finish up and I excuse myself to bed, Nat following quietly behind but I don't object.
We arrive to my room and change for the night, and I can't help but smile as I watch her drowning in my clothing that are clearly too big for her before walking to my bed. She goes to speak but I beat her to it "Can we not talk about it now, I'll explain everything tomorrow, I just need sleep," and she nods patting the spot next to her "Come here my love" she says gently, and I oblige nestling into the crook of her neck as she holds me protectively.
----
I wake up having not moved an inch, still wrapped in Nat's strong embrace, I laid there for a little longer, trying to think out how I was going to explain everything to her, before her brows furrowed and she remembered where we were, and the corner of her mouth tilted up slightly as she softly rubbed my back and sleepily mumbled "Good morning sweetheart"
We laid there in bliss for a little longer until I recalled what had happened the night before and sat up, anticipating what I would say, while she repositioned herself to sit up at my level. I slowly began "When I was younger, my parents died in a fire." One I thought I was responsible for, but Fury informed me I was wrong, saying that my brother had gotten into a trouble with some bad people, and the fire was their retaliation. They had attempted to kill all of us, not just my parents; I guess they felt that would be appropriate punishment for whatever he did." I paused for a moment before continuing "And I spent all these years thinking it was my fault"
Nat didn't say a word, she just wrapped her arms around me and we just sat there.
Happy Tuesday guys, as always leave thoughts and whatever. I'll see you all Friday.
