It didn't take Renestrae long to unpack, as she didn't really own much. After her bills and rent were paid the rest of her money usually went into books and writing materials, things that she certainly wouldn't need here.
She ran her hand down the smooth wood of her longbow as she became lost in thought. It was funny, really, that a girl from Sherwood, Michigan would become so involved with archery, especially since she really hated the Robin Hood jokes that were constantly flying around her home town. There was no helping it, she supposed. She had been hooked ever since she first fired one at the summer camp her mother had forced her to go to. She wasn't a hunter, far from it. She just loved the sport and-
"Renestrae!"
Renestrae sighed, as she looked down at her watch. Ten minutes. She should have known that those two wouldn't be capable of waiting for the fully thirty.
"Coming!" she called as she threw both her bow and her quiver over her shoulder and exited her room.
"Renestrae, how long does it take to..." Evelyn trailed off as her eyes flickered to the weapon poking up over her friend's shoulder. "You're not seriously taking that thing with you?"
"Why not?"
"I don't know, maybe because it's a dangerous weapon and we don't know the laws here!" Evelyn fumed.
"Calm down, I already checked. It's basically the same thing as back home. Don't shoot in public places. I promise it will stay in the car."
"Why do you need it though?"
"It makes me feel safe," Renestrae smiled, only too happy to explain. "a lot of people back home carry a gun with them. How's my bow any different?"
"It's not normal," Evelyn grumbled.
"I hate to burst your bubble, Ev, but Ren has never been normal," Kaloria answered. "Now let's get going."
About five minutes and seven miles later, both Evelyn and Renestrae were diving out of the car and looking rather green from their experience with Kaloria's driving.
"I take it back. If carrying that thing around makes you feel safe from that then more power to you. In fact, where can I get one of those?" Evelyn said as she leaned against and shut the passenger side door of the car.
"I think I should have brought the crossbow instead," Renestrae smirked as she glanced over at Evelyn.
"Why's that?"
"Because you don't need room to draw the string back with a crossbow."
"Hey!" Kaloria shouted as she got out of the car. "My driving wasn't that bad!"
"Kali, I love you, I really do," Renestrae said as Kaloria walked around the car. "But you're damn lucky there wasn't a cop behind us."
"Evelyn, you remember how to use our new money?" Renestrae asked as they entered the local pub.
"Yeah."
"Good, then Kaloria and I will find a seat while you grab us a couple of beers."
Evelyn was just about to open her mouth to object but her two friends were already several feet ahead of her, looking for a table. She shook her head and smiled. Those two were probably never going to grow up.
"Excuse me," she said as the bartender walked over to her. "What type of beer do you sell?" Instantly the bartender's brow furrowed in confusion.
"Ye must be confused, lass. We dinnae sell tha' here."
