"Do you think she's alright?" Evelyn asked Kali as she sat down in the kitchen, trying desperately to supress the urge to start pacing in the living room. After the Constables had gotten things under control and the body had been taken away everyone there had been questioned. Unfortunately it seemed that it didn't matter if she was there or not Constable Camshron was bound and determined to see Renestrae behind bars.

"I'm sure she's fine. She did say that they had to go out of town to attend that art gallery. They probably just ran into some traffic." Kali reassured as she handed Evelyn a cup of tea and sat down at the kitchen table as well.

"Right, traffic..." Evelyn trailed off and sipped her tea instead. She'd been feeling sick to her stomach ever since this morning and nothing she had tried since finally making it back to the house had helped her any. In fact she didn't think anything was going to help her nerves until Renestrae came back from her date.

Worst yet, it wasn't even the body of that poor boy that had her so on edge at the moment, it was that message. What could the killer have meant by it? What was promised and why was it important enough to kill over? These were the questions the police should have been asking not just assuming Renestrae had something to do with it when there wasn't any proof.

Then there was the reaction of the townspeople that was had her very worried at the moment. No one had been named, no one had been convicted and yet everyone seemed to share Officer Camshron's opinion.

Now she couldn't be one hundred percent sure but based upon what she saw today she had a pretty good feeling that if it wasn't for Officer O'Cain stepping in as the voice of reason then Renestrae would be facing a mob when she rolled back into town. Then again she couldn't see the locals remaining quiet for the good officer much longer either.

Unfortunately when it came right down to it they wer-

Suddenly Evelyn could hear the sound of tires on gravel and a pair of headlights illuminating the front living area. She did not think, merely acted on instinct as she shot to her feet, ran out of the house, and hugged the stubborn girl as she was getting out of the car and before she could ask what the matter was.

    "Ren, thank god you're alright!"

"Whoa, Ev, where's the fire? I don't think you've been this excited to see me since I spent that year in Kentucky."

Evelyn nearly burst into tears when she heared the laughter behind Renestrae's voice. That could only mean that no one had stopped them on their way into town and that she didn't know what had transpired today. Suddenly the sight of that boy pinned to the church doors with his heart ripped from his chest flashed behind her eyes and she did burst into tears.

"Whoa, Evelyn what's wrong?" Renestrae asked, her voice turning serious with a worry filled undertone.

    "There was-I-"

"It's alright, sweetie, just calm down." Renestrae whispered soothingly into her ear.

"There was another attack" Kali's voice came from the open doorway. "the killer left a message this time."

Evelyn felt Renestrae's arms tense around her at the mention of the sentence written in blood. She shuddered just thinking about it herself.

    "What did it say?"

"Give me what was promised and I'll cease hunting you."

Evelyn felt Renestrae's warm skin instantly become cold to the touch, then she felt her turn slightly and say something that sounded like "I'll see you around," before she was whispering soothing things in her ear and leading her back inside. Evelyn was hardly aware of her and Renestrae entering her room before she was on her bed and Renestrae was singing softly to her until she fell asleep.
