Kali had no more than woken up from her nap when she heard the distinct sound of the phone in the kitchen ringing.
"Ow!" she moaned as she rose from the bed. Earlier when Evelyn had suggested taking a nap while Renestrae talked with Dageus outside she had thought it was a grand idea. However, now that she was feeling the repercussions of that decision she wasn't so sure. The phone rang again and this time she ignored the pain in her muscles as she ran to the kitchen to answer it.
"Hello?"
"Kali-Lass?"
Kaloria could feel her breath catch in her throat as she recognized the sorrow filled voice on the other line as Ainslie Dunaid.
"What's wrong?" She asked softly.
"Alec's body has been released. The funeral will be tomorrow, will ye come?"
"Ainslie, I'm honored but are you sure your family is going to want me there? I am an outsider and-"
"Don't worry about my family just say that ye'll come."
Kali frowned as she contemplated it for a moment on the one hand she doubted his family would be happy to see her, especially since Renestrae was, so far, the only suspect in the investigation. However on the other hand she thought it was sweet that he wanted her there.
"Alright," she sighed, choosing to listen to her heart instead of her head this time. "I'll be there for you."
"Thank ye, Kali. I'll meet ye in town tomorrow morning around noon."
"See you then."
"Who was that?" Evelyn asked from behind her as she hanging up the phone.
"Oh my god Ev!" She exclaimed as she turned around and her hand came up to her chest in an attempt to calm her now wildly beating heart. "Don't sneak up on me like that. Jeez, between you and Ren I don't know which one of you needs to wear a cow bell more."
Evelyn smiled. "My vote is on Ren, but you didn't answer my que..." She trailed off as her eyes drifted over to the kitchen table and landed on a propt up folded piece of paper that had Girls written on the front of it in bold letters.
Before Kali could question Evelyn the petite blonde girl was quickly walking over to the table and the folded note she had failed to notice in her rush to answer the phone.
"What-"
"That girl." Evelyn grumbled as she read over the letter.
"Renestrae out with Dageus?" Kali asked cheerfully, momentarily forgetting her conversation with Ainslie for the moment.
Evelyn didn't say anything in response but the way her blue-green eyes snapped up to glare at her told her everything she needed to know. Yep, Renestrae was definitely with Dageus.
"That's it I'm driving out there."
"Whoa, whoa. I don't think that's a good idea." Kali moved so that she was blocking Evelyn's way to the door. She knew the look that Evelyn was sporting and she was pretty sure that Renestrae wasn't going to appreciate Evelyn barging in and acting like a worried mother.
"What do you mean it isn't a good idea? There's a murderer out there and other than clearly being loaded what do we really know about this guy."
"Okay, you have a valid point we don't really know him at all but think about it, what would you really be accomplishing by barging in on them."
