Later that night, as she was getting ready for bed, Renestrae had some thoughts that she knew she couldn't voice out loud, not without anyone who heard her thinking she needed to take a trip to the loony bin at any rate, but the things she had found out today, they didn't make a lick of sense.

Actually, in a way it did make sense, but no, she would not even think that, because to think it might mean that she believed it, and what sane person believed in such things? Her mother had always said that one day she would cross the line with her stories, that she would cease to be able to distinguish between fantasy and reality. Well, if she told anyone this particular thought they would all assume that day had finally come.

She needed more information. Three hundred years of killings happening in the exact same manner. Surely there couldn't be that many copycat killers. Worse still, according to the papers the killer or killers as the case may have been were never caught. Not once in this small town was anyone caught. Even a Jack the Ripper copycat would have been caught by now, and he was a legend when it came to serial killers.

She would not think it. There had to be a reasonable explanation for this and even though that made her sound like Evelyn, there had to be, for the alternative just didn't bear thinking about...
