"Down here, Alec!" Renestrae called back. Damn it! How come every time she tried to be alone, someone always came looking for her?
"Renestrae, yer friends were looking fer ye and Ainslie said I should find ye because ye were my date and all, so it's my fault if yer feeling of direction get's ye found."
Renestrae could instantly feel a headache coming along at his drunkenly slurred words. "I think you mean it's your fault if my sense of direction gets me lost."
"Yeah, that."
"Jeez, you get lost one time and everyone's a critic," she muttered under her breath. "It's fine, Alec. I was just leaving. I-"
Suddenly Dageus MacArtair had her hand and he was placing a kiss on the back of it. Instantly her faced turned red and her mind went blank. "Dinnae be a stranger, Renestrae lass. If ye ever want tae talk more about mythology or read one of my books, ye know where tae find me."
"Okay, I'll see you around then, I guess," she said politely before following Alec out of the room. Truth be told, that had to be the strangest encounter she'd ever had. He had obviously not been happy when Alec had shown up because she had gotten a distinctly negative vibe off him in that moment. Plus he was handsome, far too handsome. Nope, it would be best if Renestrae stayed as far away from that castle as possible.
Of course, as soon as she got up the stairs she realized it was probably a good thing that Alec had come to get her because Kaloria was currently trying to drag Evelyn off the dance floor.
"Ren, thank the gods. Have you had anything to drink?"
Instantly Renestrae didn't like the direction she was sure this conversation was going to go. "No, why?"
"Because you need to drive us home."
"I can drive!" Evelyn exclaimed. "What's the right side of the road again?"
Renestrae let out what could only be described as between a sigh and a laugh. "You know it's a sad day when I'm the better choice. Kali, if you follow any god, I suggest you start praying.
"Why?"
"Because if I'm driving, we're going to need all the help we can get!"
