The city began to slowly liven up, as traffic began once more and vendors took their place in their stands. The sun shun down on the city, as pedestrians began to exit and make their way about. It was as if the attack had never happened.
(Y/n) walked on the sidewalk, side by side with Mei. Mei had explained to her that there was a group of friends that she wanted to introduce her to. Stating that they would keep her safe if any attack, such as the one that happened, were to ever occur that they would keep her from harms way. They walked slowly as Mei pestered her with questions on her arrival in the city. She would hum in response, keeping her answers short. Her friendly nature made it easy for her to trust the older woman, quickly.
Mei chirped out another question, She turned her attention back to Mei, smiling softly as she finished. "So, when did you get here, to Megapolis, I mean?" (Y/n) placed her hands together, turning to gaze at the sky. "A week or two ago, I wanted to visit an old friend.." Mei hummed delightfully. Her head perking up as they made a right turn. "Oh! This is the place!" She ran in front of her, stretching her hands out in an outlandish manner. "Ta-da! This is Pigsy's noodles, home of the best noodles if I do say so myself!"
She chuckled softly, "I may have to try these noodles, if they are so grand." Mei nodded enthusiastically, entering through the front of the door. (Y/n) observed the exterior, making a small note to remember the building. The building was well preserved with a bit of greenery crawling on the brick walls. There was a small open booth area, where civilians could dine outside and an open window. In large pink lettering she read silently, 'Pigsy Noodles'.
Following in pursuit, behind Mei. She entered the building, the bell on the door signaling that a customers had arrived. She looked around the space she was brought into. Taking in the aroma of freshly made noodles. It was a well kept small noodle shop. Red cushioned chairs and stools were sporadically placed throughout the establishment, the wooden floor creaked regularly as people entered and left through the entrance. The place seemed empty at the moment as they looked around. A man sat on a stool a few feet away from her, she stared at him before returning her focus to Mei. He looks familiar.
Mei walked towards the man, "Tang! Tang the man!" She chirped, placing a hand on his shoulder. Mei smiled at him warmly, as he greeted her with a startled yelp. He had smooth black hair that was combed sideways. With round, gold rimmed glasses. Dressed in a red scarf, and a red outfit with a golden line that split his white sleeve from his red sleeve. He sat up right as Mei addressed him.
"Is Pigsy here! I wanna introduce him to someone–Oh! By the way this is (y/n), we saved her from that weird attack earlier today!"
"It is nice to meet you, Tang the man." Mei giggled to herself. As she dipped her head to him, lifting it gracefully back up. He stared at the woman, her hair framed her face perfectly, skin fair, and outfit clean. She seemed familiar, like a lost dream he once had. Her aura felt familiar but menacing, it gave him mere chills. He quickly stood from his cushioned stool, adjusting his glasses, quickly wiping his hands on his tunic. His face flushed lightly, "It's–actually just Tang–I–sorry, have we met before.. you seem familiar?" He tripped over his words putting his hand out to shake, she smiled softly gladly taking his hand in hers.
"This is the first we have met."
A sudden memory relapsed in her mind, it was of the man that stood in front of her. He wore a white tunic with a golden etching that was laced perfectly in his attire. His hand in sync with hers. The harsh winds left her cold and defenseless, only feeling the warmth of his hand. He held a golden staff above her head, as she looked downwards. Was she fearful of this man? The warmth of his hand snapped her out of her daze, her eyes met his. Quickly pulling it away as she went about as if nothing had happened.
Tang looked to the woman confused at what he had just seen, it seemed like a distant memory. A vision, maybe. It was of the same woman but she was kneeling to him eyes cast downward, she wore a beige traditional outfit that was covered in slick mud her hair standing out in the most undistinguished of places. He shook it off, deciding not to question the weird deja vu he had just experienced.
"So is Pigsy here or.." Mei trailed off as she watched the two look away from one another, Tang cleared his throat before continuing. "He had to run a few errands. I don't know when he'll be back though, why don't you introduce her to Mk?" Mei groaned dramatically, "That loser left me for some copy-cat Monkey King!" (Y/n) chuckled a bit, Macaque would have been overjoyed if he had heard this. Tang rolled his eyes, opening his mouth to continue.
(Y/n) cut in quickly, "Monkey king? Would that be Sun Wukong?" She pondered out loud, Tang stood taller and gave a knowing smile to Mei, "Why yes that is the Monkey king, Great sage, equal to heaven," Mei quickly opened her mouth ready to change the subject she knew all too well. Tang placed a finger to her lips, silencing her. "Do you know the tale, (y/n)?" She nodded, resting her hands to her side. "A friend of mine has told me the tale before."
"Well then he must've told you how he stole immortal peaches! Or how he fought with heaven, or perhaps how he snuck into a banquet–"
She chuckled aloud, answering his questions, "I have, Mr.Tang..you seem to know a lot of his tale.. would you mind if I asked you something?" He nodded eagerly, "Of course, go ahead!" Mei groaned setting herself down on a cushioned couch. "Was there ever a mention of a nymph?" His brows raised, deep in thought. He closed his eyes, opening them as the thought finally came to mind. "Well," he began, running a hand over his hair.
"There is a tale, but not a lot of people have heard of it. The Monkey King, one day, was sent to get rid of a nymph that was bothering a nearby town. She would keep this entire enchanted forest to herself and would heal evil spirits or demons who walked through,"
Mei blurted abruptly, "Woah–what! She would heal demons but wouldn't let humans use a forest, that's messed up!" Tang nodded continuing on with his storytelling.
"The Monkey King eventually found her and well they fought. She was strong that's for sure but Monkey King was stronger. They had made a deal that she would gain immortality and that she would let the humans be. Monkey King agreed. She bound her soul to it to keep her word. But what she didn't know was that he would betray her.
(Y/n) listened attentively, her mind swarmed as she thought on her past. Something that had happened in her life, that she was just not able to see if it were true. Macaque was right. Wukong had wronged her, he had not held up his end of the bargain. He tricked her.
"He returned one day, only to find a human dead. He fought with her once more and this time he imprisoned her. He went back to the celestial realm with her wings as a trophy."
Trophy!
She scowled to herself, humans never had her best interest at heart. She thought back in what she spewed to Macaque. "These humans cannot get hurt!", it was of second nature to her. She felt foolish, her intentions were not to make him be at fault.
Mei noticed the change in the atmosphere and piped out, "But it's just a story right, Tang!" He shrugged his shoulders, "If Monkey King is real, who's to say 'The Wicked Nymph' isn't? Oh, and (y/n) did you know that you share a name with her.." He trailed off slowly redirecting his words, "Not to say that you're like her or anything! I just thought it was cool that you guys share a name!" Her eyes hardened, lost in thought. "Who is the Monkey Kings apprentice." Her voice was assertive and strong. Tang looked to Mei, she shrugged before speaking.
"He's my best buddy, Mk! He's been training with Monkey King for a while now. Oh–did you know he can wield his staff now! It's so cool we should visit flower fruit mountain sometime and give them a visit!"
Her eyes slightly widened, "It's here?" Mei gave her a confusing glance before nodding, "Yeah, Flower Fruit Mountain is where Mk trains most of the time. He's always there right, Tang!" He nodded almost immediately. "It's what he seems to be doing everyday, honestly." She hummed, eyes stern and face clear of any expression. A sudden gust of wind caused her skin to crawl. She glanced to the open window, then to her new acquaintances. Behind them across a wall a shadow monkey with beady eyes waved at her, teasingly.
"I must go."
Tang looked to Mei as she exclaimed, "Oh what! Really, you didn't even get to meet Pigsy, Sandy, or Mk!" She smiled at her softly, "Next time." She smiled back, "You better! I need a new girl to hang around with."
