As the portal closed behind her, (Y/N) found herself back in the familiar surroundings of the dojo she had called home for the last few months. Except it had never felt like that nor it ever will.(Y/N) stood in the center of the dojo, her heart heavy with conflicting emotions. On one hand, she was relieved to be back, away from the uncertainties and dangers that Wukong had caused. On the other hand, she couldn't shake this longing that troubled her mind. Looking around the dojo, she noticed the familiar training equipment, the walls adorned with various martial arts techniques, and the scent of incense that always lingered in the air. But all of it felt dull and lifeless.
As she stood in the dojo, a sense of surreal beauty enveloped her as she instinctively flexed her wings, their sleek, obsidian-black expanse spreading gracefully over and above her head. Each feather seemed to have a life of its own, as they delicately expanded and contracted with her body's movements, giving the impression of breathing, as if they, too, were alive and attuned to her emotions. Her eyes fixed upon the reflection in the mirror, mesmerized by the intricate details of her true form. The wings arched with a perfect curvature, each feather adorned with an iridescent sheen that caught and shimmered in the light. The magic imbued in her horns was evident as well, as they rose elegantly from her forehead, their sculpted form appearing almost ethereal. Despite the perfection of her appearance, she still felt a deep sense of disquiet, as though a vital part of her was missing. Her attention shifted to her companion, who stood beside her in his ordinary attire. But with her sight, she could see his true nature, witnessing the subtle complexities of his being. His six ears, twitched with sensitivity, attuned to the slightest sounds around them. And the faintest hint of gray in his eye hinted at a past wound, a scar running to the tip of his brow ending at his left cheek.
As Macaque gazed at her, his eyes seemed to hold a mix of admiration and something deeper, an emotion she couldn't quite decipher. Slowly, he reached out and gently took hold of her hands, bringing them tenderly to his face. The touch of his warm palms against her skin sent a shiver down her spine, and she could feel the softness of his fur against her fingers.
"Mistress," he began, his voice laced with a hint of awe and vulnerability, "You're astounding." His words seemed to carry a weight of sincerity, and she found herself taken aback by the unexpected compliment.
Her wings, which were usually poised and controlled, flared out involuntarily in response to her surprise and embarrassment. She had never been one to seek praise or attention, and yet here was her companion, offering her such heartfelt words. "Macaque," she said, her voice tinged with concern, "What's come over you? You're not usually so... affectionate." He didn't withdraw from her touch; instead, he nuzzled his head gently into her hands, as if seeking solace and comfort from her presence. It was an intimate display that she had never witnessed from him before, and it stirred a mix of emotions within her.
"You have faced challenges that would have left others broken," Macaque continued, his words sincere and unwavering. "Yet you stand strong and resolute, with wings that embody the grace and power of a true guardian. You are a sight to behold, Mistress."
Her cheeks flushed with a deep hue of red, and she struggled to find words to respond to his heartfelt praise. It wasn't that she didn't appreciate his sentiments, but rather, she was unaccustomed to being the center of such admiration.
"I... I don't know what to say," she stammered, her gaze meeting his eyes that seemed to hold a vulnerability she hadn't noticed before. "I never expected... such kind words from you."
Macaque's six ears twitched with a mix of emotions, and she could see a hint of uncertainty in his expression. "I may not express it often, but it's true," he confessed. "You are remarkable, and I am grateful to be in your presence." In that moment, she allowed herself to embrace the connection between them, offering a tender smile as she tightened her hold on his hands. "Thank you, Macaque," she said softly, "Your friendship means the world to me, and I am grateful to have you by my side on this journey."
