After a long day at Dex's workplace, Beth could safely say she couldn't see herself making it a habit to go there. She was happy to have been given the opportunity to see Dex's work world, and she'd make effort to know more about it. But the business world, especially insurance and finances was not her playground. She had other hobbies.
Dex was so glued to his work he'd even missed lunch despite her persuasion. She'd ordered it in because he couldn't leave the office. When the food did come, Dex took it and placed on the side of his desk but didn't touch it. Even now, it was nearly seven o'clock and almost everyone had gone home, but for the past two hours Dex still kept insisting that he needed a few more minutes. Beth finally got up and threatened to leave without him. Dex told her to go ahead and press the lift call button whilst he finished up and he'd be right behind her. Slowly Beth walked towards the lift expecting Dex to catch up soon, but five minutes later and she was still alone.
The lift doors opened and she stepped out of the way for the few people that wanted to exit. Beth wasn't paying much attention to who came out and who stayed in until an unfamiliar voice spoke to her.
'Are you not getting in?'
She raised her face and her eyes met with the striking hazel ones of a man who was without effort blessed on the looks. He seemed to have been about to press the button for the lift to continue onto a different floor but waited for her response.
'I'm not.' Beth said hating the indecent looks he gave as he eyed her from head to toe licking his lips in the process.
'Are you new? I've never seen you around before.' He asked stepping out of the lift. Beth didn't miss the wink he gave to the woman who stayed behind in the lift and the doors closed as she smiled shyly at him.
'I don't work here.' Beth responded curtly getting uncomfortable with this man. He was now standing in front of her and his eyes zoomed in and fixed on her chest area. Although she was decently dressed, Beth still felt as though her clothes were transparent with the way he looked at her.
'Play with me and I can get you a top job here.' He said forcing a seductive tone that made Beth want to throw up.
She looked over his shoulder hoping to see Dex but the man was nowhere in sight. No one else was there besides her and this unwelcome stranger.
'No thanks.' Beth said before walking away from where she was. Before she could go far she felt a strong grip on her wrist.
'Trying to be a hard girl huh? One night in my bed princess, and I'll show you paradise. Money is no issue.' He said sliding his other hand up her arm.
Beth started to panic as memories of the not so old past flooded back in. The force those men had used on her, the pain they'd exerted on her with their bare hands and other violent means. The more she stiffened and tried to loosen herself, the firmer his hold got and he moved closer to her.
Everything else went blank to Beth besides the need to fight for survival. This man was going to kill her . Had Victor sent someone to finish off what he couldn't? She couldn't breathe as fear flooded her lungs.
Whatever else he kept on saying went unheard to her. She just kept twisting her arm and kicking at him but missed almost every time.
Suddenly, everything came to light again as she felt her hand being relieved of the forceful hold. She hadn't realized that she'd closed her eyes until she heard a loud pained groan from behind her. She turned and found the stranger pinned to the wall by Dex covering his pretty face.
'Don't you ever again lay your filthy hands on her. Never again, hear me?' Dex raged choking the breath out of him. He threw a hard fist at the man's face that had him slamming his head against the wall.
