Chapter 25

Hillary ran so fast to her kids with such a happy look on her face and her arms wide open. All three kids fell into her embrace and Hillary's face flooded with tears of both joy and unquestionable thankfulness as she sneaked a peek at Beth who stood next to Dex watching the family reunion.

Dex looked on seeming completely unmoved by the scenario before him whilst Beth placed a hand on her chest feeling emotional about the moment. She thought back to how hard hearted Dex had been about returning the kids. She was surprised when Hillary had called again asking for them back because Beth was so convinced Dex had already done as she'd asked. Clearly he hadn't and she'd had to set her foot down on this one and forced him to take them back with her as a witness.

'Thank you so much. You have no idea how much this means to me.' Hillary said with a broken voice.

Beth nodded and smiled.
'Not even a hint of an apology at least?' Dex asked fixing a cold glare on Hillary. She nervously bit her lips. Her heart rate skyrocketed to unhealthy levels as she looked at the furious man staring at her.

'I a... I am deeply sorry for what I did to both you and Beth. I don't even know how to express my regret. It was such a stupid and evil thing and I'm deeply sorry. Beth, at first encounter with you I saw a way to serve Dex the same pain I'd suffered and blamed him for. Victor's men approached me and somehow they knew about my husband's death. They helped heighten the hatred I felt towards Dex and offered to help destroy him. All they wanted from me was information on your relationship with Beth and they wanted to know about her whereabouts every time. At that time, they were an answer to my prayers. But with time, you slowly became a sister to me Beth and I involuntarily found myself caring for and loving you.' Hillary, with guilt all over her face looked at Beth for a split second then back to her kids. She couldn't hold her face high, not with the murderous look Dex had on her.

Beth held one of his hands that were shaking with rage in hers and she soothed it with a caressing touch to calm him.

'Long story short, I told Victor of my regret in ever agreeing to work with him and threatened to report him to the police if he didn't stop targeting Beth. That day, Victor threatened to take my children and-- and he sad he'd have them abused in every sense of the word then he'd make me watch him skin them a-- I couldn't back out Beth. I was scared for my children. I knew I couldn't protect them from Victor. In the end, I betrayed you. I'm terribly sorry.' Hillary came and fell at Beth's feet. Her tears fell on the ground she now looked at as she continued to beg for forgiveness. Noticing how depressing the scene was to the kids, Beth told them to go and play inside and they did.

She let go of Dex's hand and kneeled to face Hillary. 'I wish we'd met under different circumstances in life, then maybe we'd have know each other first before you could blindly hate me. It's not your fault that you didn't know, but you can't live life with so much bitterness. Look where it's taken you. It's a sour feeling that drives you to do so much regretful things on life. Talk to my husband, he regrets losing Lionel too. He partly feels responsible but if the both of you do not sit and talk about it, you'll always hate and might even do worse things in the future. Personally, I forgive you and I hope we'll mend our broken relationship. It won't be easy, but with time we'll be fine.'
