ERIS
"You are amazing. You know that?" Darius kissed me, and I smiled at him.
Last night he told me I was worthless and the worst girlfriend ever. Now he wanted to be all up in my space?
"I'm going to work late tonight, so you don't have to wait for me, alright?" He told me, and I nodded.
He got up and kissed me one last time before he walked out. We have been together for four years now. There were times when I was ready to leave him, but he promised there would be change. He told me the beatings were going to stop and apologized for losing his temper all the time. I would prepare my breakup speech many times, but he would sweet-talk me into staying with him.
Usually, when he would go to work, I would stay and clean up after us. I stayed in his apartment a lot. Whenever I brought up the topic of us moving in together, he would make up an excuse about buying us a house and saying there was no point in moving twice. I made dinner after cleaning and lay down to watch tv. He said he was working late, so I'll save the rest for when he gets home. It was getting late, so I put everything away, washed the dishes, and went to bed.
I woke up in the middle of the night to loud noises in the living room. I grabbed whatever I could find for protection and slowly made my way toward the noises. I heard distant voices, and I tiptoed as I got closer.
"You are amazing at this," Oh, I guess Darius was home already.
"Better than your girlfriend, I suppose?" Was he with another girl?
"Fuck yes, better than her."
I turned on the lights in the living room, and he had a girl on his lap.
"Darius?"
He peaked over the girl's shoulder and smiled.
"Eris! Come join us," He patted the space beside us, and I shook my head. He still dares to invite me in for a threesome.
"Join us now!" He commanded. He pushed the girl aside, exposing them to me. I backed into the door, and he grabbed my hand.
"I told you to stay," He tried to pull me towards them, but I yanked my arm away.
"Baby, if she doesn't want to stay, let her go. Let's do this ourselves," The girl on the couch said. She started playing with herself, and I looked away.
"I can't do this anymore. I'm done with you!" I ran out of the apartment without looking back.~
"That was when I left him," I finished telling the story to Nathan. "Before that, we were together for four years, which was amazing. He always told me the nicest things and made me feel loved."
"What happened at the club?" He asked.
"I wanted to go out with Stacy to have a nice night. I had too much to drink, and I bumped into him. I wasn't feeling good, and he took me home. He stayed overnight to make sure I was okay,"
He stood up and faced me.
"You're telling me that your abusive ex has been in contact with you since then, and you haven't told anyone? Has he visited since then?"
"Not until last night. He has wanted to get back together. Yesterday he invited me to dinner, but I said I was going out with Stacy. He found out I was lying and waited for me to get home. He saw us get out of the car and was resentful. When I got there, I didn't see him at first, but then he. . ." I sighed and looked down at my arm. Thankfully it looked like the burn wasn't going to mark like the others. "He took his anger out on me, and I was able to get away from him,"
He started pacing back and forth, which was beginning to get me nervous.
"What exactly did he do to you?"
"Last night or in the last year?" I joked. Big mistake. He turned to look at me, and I turned away. "He slapped me, burned me, and pulled my hair. He tried to force himself on me,"
He sat back down and grabbed his phone.
"We are going to file a police report. What's his name?"
"No, we can't. He'll find me,"
"You're staying here."
"But my stuff. . ."
"I'll get you anything you need. Now, can I have his name?"
He looked at me. I didn't want any trouble, mainly because Darius knew where I lived. At the same time, I wasn't going to live there for long.
"Darius Lennox,"
He nodded and stepped away from me while he made a call. Once he was done, he came back and sat down.
"Do you live alone?" I asked him.
"Yes," He didn't take his eyes off the phone.
"Does your boss also live here? What if he sees me here with you? I don't want to bother your secret billionaire boss,"
"Don't worry about that. Why don't you get some rest? The police will be coming to get a statement from you,"
We spent the rest of the day here in his place. The police came by and asked for a description of him. They also wanted all the details of what he did to me. I told them everything, even from when we were together. It was a long talk.
Nathan was there the entire time. He sat there quietly while I confessed to every hit and burn that Darius did to me. I had never told anyone about it. Stacy was constantly questioning it, but I never told her any details.
"I think that's enough for today," The officer put his notepad away and looked up at me. "We are going to need pictures of the bruises and marks,"
"A lot of them are not exactly easy to show," I cleared my throat. He looked at me, confused, and I looked over at Nathan.
"I think it's enough for today, officer. I'll get back to you about the pictures," They stood up, and I looked down at my hands.
They discussed a few last details, and then the officer left.
"The day sure goes by quickly, right?" I asked Nathan. He sat on the opposite side of the couch while he typed away on his phone.
"That's what happens when we spend the day talking about all the shit your ex-boyfriend did to you,"
The bags under his eyes were darker than usual. He hasn't left my side all day.
"You should go to bed already. I'm sorry for being a burden. You don't have to be dealing with this,"
"I'm fine. We still need to eat dinner,"
"I'm not hungry,"
He sighed and looked up at me. His eyes were droopy, and I shook my head.
"Before you say anything, I heard your phone call earlier. I know you have a very early important meeting. You should get some rest."
"Come with me," He stood up and turned around. I followed closely behind him before I lost him in his maze apartment.
We entered one of the first doors in the hallway. It had a big bed in the middle with black sheets, a couple of cabinets, and a large window.
"This is where you can stay for now. You know where the kitchen is; my room is the farthest down the hall. You can always knock on my door if you need anything, okay?" I nodded, and he stood there awkwardly.
"I'll see you tomorrow, goodnight," We walked out into the hallway.
"Goodnight, thank you again," I said as I watched him disappear into his room.
Well, that was an eventful day. My stomach started grumbling, and I groaned. I turned to look back toward Nathan's room. No need to bother him. I headed to the kitchen to find something to eat. I stood by the island and frowned. I still didn't know my way around his kitchen. It's okay. It shouldn't be that hard to find cereal.
