ERIS

It's been two days since I last saw Nathan. He has constantly been texting me, asking where I was. I told him that all he needed to know was that I was safe and that he would let me know when I could get my stuff.
"You know, maybe you should talk to him," Stacy commented as we watched my phone ring for the hundredth time today. "Would you do the same thing he did?"
The phone stopped ringing, and I sighed.
"I understand why he would do it at first. Yes, I would do the same thing, but why continue it even after we were dating? If he trusted me enough to let me live with him, why couldn't he tell me the truth?"
"You're right,"
The phone started ringing, and she grabbed it.
"No, what are you doing?" My heart dropped when her finger slid across the screen, and she put it against her ear.
"Hello?" She picked up. "I would appreciate it if you stopped calling. The ringing is giving me a headache,"
I pursed my lips together, trying not to laugh.
"She doesn't want to talk to you," She made a face. "Yes, I'll tell her,"
She hung up and laughed.
"What did he say?" I asked.
"He wants you to go later today. He wants to see you. He offered to bring your stuff where ever you need them,"
I grabbed my phone, texting him that I was coming by later. I looked up at Stacy and pouted.
"Can you take me, please?"
"Are you kidding me? I'm invested. I want to know what happens. Let's go," She pulled me up, and I groaned.
Stacy was ranting the whole way back about how cute our babies would be if we stayed together. She even asked me to set her up with one of his wealthy friends. This is why I love Stacy. She always has a way of making me laugh, no matter the circumstances. My heart started racing when I saw his building around the corner. We pulled up to the front, and Stacy smiled at me.
"Here we go! Remember, don't jump to conclusions. I advise you to jump on him instead. Good luck, and text me if you need me," She hugged me, and I got out of the car.
I walked into the building and immediately regretted coming in. There it was again, the tension as I walked by the desk. I stopped right before I stepped into the elevator and fidgeted with my fingers. All you have to do is go in there and talk to him. I walked in and made my way up to his place. I'll stay by the door just in case I have to leave quickly. Ding. The familiar living room came to view, and I stepped in.
"Hi! Can I help you?" I heard a voice say. I turned around and saw a pretty pregnant blonde standing by the kitchen doorway.
"I'm sorry, I'm looking for Nathan," I said nervously. This girl was obviously not aware that I was coming over.
"He's in the shower. Was he expecting you?" She glanced back at the hallway.
"Yes, wait, who are you?" She opened her mouth to reply, but Nathan stepped into the room.
Our eyes met, and he smiled, "Eris," His face dropped when he noticed the other person in the room. "Alana? What are you doing here?"
"We wanted to surprise you," As if on cue, a little boy came out of nowhere and ran toward Nathan.
"Hey!" He picked him up, and I stared at them in disbelief. He was standing with a pregnant girl and a kid on his arm. Was this another lie, or was he about to make up an excuse for this?
"I'm leaving," Thankfully, I listened to myself and stayed close to the elevator.
"I thought you came here to talk," I turned to face him and scoffed.
"You have other...acquaintances to worry about," I snapped back. The other girl looked hurt, and I know it wasn't her fault, but I was hurting too.
"This is Alana," he pointed at her, and she waved. "My sister,"
I felt my cheeks get hot. See, this is why you don't jump to conclusions. Now I made a fool out of myself. I feel so stupid.
"Alana, this is Eris," Her eyes lit up as if a switch clicked inside her.
"The Eris?! It's so nice to meet you finally!" She came and hugged me. It was an awkward hug considering her belly got in the way. "This is my baby boy, Elijah," She pointed at the giggling boy in Nathan's arms.
"Nathan never mentioned he had a sister. Or nephew. Or incoming..."
"Niece," Alana finished the sentence for me. This is awkward.
"I didn't know they were coming over. If not, I would've told you," Nathan commented as he adjusted Elijah in his arms.
"Should've mentioned it to me either way," I mumbled. Alana cleared her throat and walked over to Nathan.
"We'll give you two some privacy," She grabbed Elijah from Nathan and walked out of the room. He sat on the couch and patted the spot next to him. Hesitantly, I sat down at a safe distance.
"Eris, I miss you so much. Please come back home,"
"Not knowing about your sister just proves how very little I know about you,"
"I was afraid you would treat me differently if you knew who I was. I didn't want anything to change between us. You had me wrapped around your finger before I even knew your name." He never broke eye contact with me. It was almost intimidating. "I should've told you the truth earlier,"
"How can I trust you after lying to me all this time?" He sat closer to me and grabbed my hands.
"Let's start over. We can take things slow. I'll tell you everything you want to know, and I promise not to leave you out of anything."
He placed his fingers under my chin and lifted my head gently. His eyes scanned my face, and the lines between his eyebrows were more defined.
"Please," He begged.
I looked down at his lips and leaned in to kiss him. I did miss him, and the way his lips felt on mine made my heart warm. I put my hand in his hair, and he moaned. I pulled away before things got heated and smiled.
"Taking things slow would be nice. You know, maybe take me out on a date first before we have hot makeout sessions,"
He had the widest smile and pulled me into a hug. Although he lied about who he was, I was delighted to be with him again.
