ERIS
"You're so cute, you know?" I made a face at Emma, but she didn't laugh.
"Why won't she laugh with me?" I frowned.
"That's because you're doing it wrong," Mathew extended his hands, and I passed her over. He made a face, and she did her cutest little baby laugh.
"Don't worry, maybe she likes ugly scary things," Nathan commented. Mathew glared at him but continued making faces. Nathan's phone started ringing, and his eyebrows furrowed.
"I'll be right back, okay?" He kissed my forehead and walked out of the room.
"Let me try again," He gave Emma back to me, and I made a face. She didn't laugh. Mathew laughed and sat back.
"You're just not good with babies like I am,"
"Whatever," I laughed. Nathan walked in and looked at us.
"That was detective Henderson," I looked up at him. "They have Crystal in custody,"
"What's the next step?" Mathew stood up.
"They are going to question her. He asked me to go down there,"
"I want to go as well," I stood up and adjusted Emma in my arms.
"I have a few questions myself," Mathew said.
"We can go. I don't want to leave Alana here by herself. We can all go, but we will stay at a safe distance,"
"We are going to his office. There should be security everywhere. Nothing can go wrong," Mathew commented.
We got ready to go, and I helped Alana with the baby carrier. She wasn't excited to go, but she knew it would be one of the only times we would go out. Once we got to the station, we got put in an office where Alana could be with the kids.
"They are going to start questioning her," Detective Henderson announced as he came in.
"Did you need anything before we leave?" Nathan asked me.
"No, I'm going with you," I stood up. He chuckled and shook his head.
"Let her go," Mathew commented.
"I don't think you have a say in this," Nathan stepped forward.
"And you can't tell me what I can and can't do," I walked past Nathan and walked up to Detective Henderson. "Where is she?" We walked out of the room with him without looking back.
He led us through different hallways and finally let us into a room with a big window. There she was. She was sitting in a chair with handcuffs on.
"Has she said anything?" Mathew asked.
"Not a single thing," Detective Henderson answered. I crossed my arms and watched her. She was playing with her fingers. She looked around until her eyes landed on me. We made eye contact, and I gasped.
"She can't see you,"
It sure felt like she could. She smirked, and someone walked into the room. She looked away, and I sighed. Breathe in, breathe out. I felt like I was going to throw up. Maybe this wasn't a good idea.
"Ms. Porter, are you sure you don't want a lawyer present before we proceed?" Another Detective came in and sat across her.
"There is no point. I'm just here, to tell the truth," She glanced back at the window and snickered.
"Are you sure she can't see us?" I asked without looking back.
"There is nothing to worry about, Ms. Cadieux,"
"Ms. Porter, there was a moment right before the explosion when you were seen discussing with someone. Is this true?"
"Yes, it is,"
"And this person handed you over a backpack after a loud discussion,"
"Yes, he did,"
"What was in that backpack?"
"Supplies" She laid back. "I am on my period, and I asked him to bring me some supplies,"
"Why would you need such a big backpack for items like that?"
"When you have a heavy load, you need bigger stuff,"
"What were you guys arguing about?"
"I have mood swings," She shrugged. "I argue about the smallest things."
"Who was this person?"The detective showed her a picture, and I stood on my tiptoes. It was a zoomed-in photo of Darius holding the backpack.
"My. . .friend,"
"What is your friend's name?"
"I think you would know," She turned to look at the window again. "Don't you, Eris?"
I felt my heart drop. I stepped back, and Mathew came into my side view.
"How the hell does she know we are here?!"
"You need to keep calm. She might not see us, but she could hear us if we are loud enough," Detective Henderson warned.
"Who are you talking to, Ms. Porter?" The other detective asked.
"I know you're there," She smirked. I dropped my arms to the side and stared at her. "You should've stayed with him, but good thing you aren't. He loves me, and he never loved you,"
"Ms.Porter, answer the question. Do you know who this man is?" Detective pointed at the picture again.
"You should've died! Burned in the building! You don't deserve him, and you don't deserve Nathan!" She stood up, and I stepped back. She got pulled back by the handcuffs. I felt my eyes get watery, but I didn't take my eyes off her.
Nathan pulled me away and out of the room.
"I told you it wasn't a good idea to go in there," I yanked my arm away from him and walked into a room.
I closed the door and locked it. I sat on the floor and let the tears fall down my face. She did this with Darius. They planned this attack and killed numerous people. Their target was me, and in the process of that, a lot of innocent individuals died. Add that to the list of people's blood on my hands.
"Excuse me, miss?" I was startled by the sound of the voice and looked up. A man was leaning on his desk. "Are you okay?"
"I'm s-sorry," I choked out. I didn't realize I had stepped into an office.
"It's okay. You don't have to apologize," He walked over to me. "Do you want some water?" He extended his hand, and I took it. He stood me up and smiled.
"Yes, I would love to, thank you,"
He handed me some water and sat me on a chair by the desk. "Now, let's talk,"
