ERIS

I lifted my head off the ground. My ears were ringing. My sight was blurry. Elijah was lying next to me, and I pulled him toward me. Please be okay.
"Elijah?" My voice was raspy. When my ears stopped ringing, I could hear his cries. I stood up and looked around. There was smoke everywhere. I could barely see five feet in front of me. I heard cries for help in the distance.
"Mathew?!" I yelled. I kept Elijah's head down, and more debris fell around us.
"Help!" I turned around and saw a lady pinned down by a giant piece of concrete. "Help me, please! I don't want to die!" I walked over to her, and she was crying. I grabbed her hand, and she looked up at me.
"Am I going to die?" She asked me and coughed. I coughed and shook my head.
"They are coming for us already," She smiled, and her head fell sideways. Her chest stopped moving, and tears were streaming down my face.
"Ma'am? Ma'am, we need to get you out of here!" I was pulled away from the lady. Stacy's image flashed in front of me, and I looked down. She died alone. I saw the firefighters grabbing Elijah from me and guiding me through the debris.
"My-" The smoke was affecting me. I couldn't speak. "My friend,"
"We are getting everyone out. You need to come with us," I tried pulling away from them, but it was no use.
"She had a baby!" The coughing was getting worse. "She was pulled away from me!"
Soon enough, I was finally pulled out of the building. There were cops and ambulances everywhere. People were yelling and crying. Someone put a mask over my mouth, and I took it off.
"Please, She had her in her arms. She's just a baby!" I cried. Elijah was sitting near me, also being treated by the paramedics.
"First responders are currently trying to get everyone out," the paramedic reassured.
"Mathew," I whispered. I looked at what used to be the lobby. There was tons of smoke coming out and firefighters running out with people.
"H-he was in front of me when the ceiling fell," My voice sounded muffled because of the mask. "Is he dead?!"
The paramedic didn't say anything anymore. I cried and looked at Elijah. He had dry tears on his face, and he looked at me. I didn't know who was alive or dead. Nathan, Mathew, Alana, and Emma. I put my face in my hands and let the tears flow down. It can't be just us left.
"Let me go!" I looked up to see the firefighters bringing someone else out. "I have to go back in there!"
"Mathew!" I yelled and began coughing again. He looked up at me and pushed away the firefighters. I got up, and he hugged me.
"I thought you were dead," He said. I could hear the relief in his voice. He pulled away and grabbed my face."When I saw the ceiling fall, I thought-"
I nodded and let out a sob. "I know, I did too," He hugged me again before embracing Elijah.
"Mathew, Alana s-she-" He sat me down and grabbed my hand.
"Relax, and tell me what happened,"
I took a deep breath in and out and looked at him. "At first, we thought it was an earthquake. We felt the first rumble. Everything was falling and breaking. In the stairwell, it's where it got crazy. I had Elijah, and she had Emma. People were getting hectic, and they were panicking. When they spotted the fire, they began pushing, and I didn't see her anymore,"
Whenever a fireman dragged someone out of the building, I turned my attention to them.
"Oh my gosh, Mathew, where is Nathan?" I asked.
"We got here before the second explosion. He was able to get in to look for you since he is the owner,"
"Explosion? Like a bomb?"
He nodded and grabbed Elijah. "They wouldn't let me in, but I ran in once I had an opening. I saw you, and then you know.."
I laid my head on his shoulder and sighed. "They can't be dead, right?"
"No, they aren't. We'll see them coming out right now,"
We were both staring at where the doors used to stand. My heart would jump out of my chest every time someone walked out.
"Is mommy coming already?" Elijah asked.
"She sure is bud. She will come out of there any second now," Mathew said.
I watched as they carried a woman out, and I stood up.
"Mathew, I think that's-"
I saw Nathan run out after her, holding Emma in his arms. When his eyes met mine, a wave of relief flashed over his face. He collapsed a second later, and I ran over to him. Just before I could bend down, I was pulled away yet again. The image of me being removed from Stacy flashed before me. My mind was playing tricks on me. I quickly blinked it out and turned to look at Mathew
"Eris, you need to give them space to work on him," he said. Paramedics were rushing to Nathan. They grabbed Emma from his arms to proceed with no problem.
"I'll go in the ambulance with Alana. You have to ride with him," He turned me around and gave me a quick hug."You have to stay here with him. I'll see you there, okay?"
I nodded, and he left. The paramedics were throwing out a bunch of words while examining Nathan. Again, Stacy's image flashed before me when they checked her at the house. I blinked away the thought as they strapped him onto a gurney, and we were on the way to the hospital.
The monitor connected to him started rapidly beeping, and I watched as they worked on him again. There was a loud banging noise, and we were all jolted forward. I tried holding on to something, but it wouldn't help. The ambulance was flipped a couple of times, and then it stopped. I banged my head against the cabinet, and everything went dark.
