ERIS
I haven't gotten any calls or texts from Darius in the last two days. Nathan has been speaking with the police daily for updates, but they haven't had any information. Also, he leaves early for work and doesn't get home till late at night. He said he was trying to fix a deal at work.
Stacy calls me daily to check on me, and I keep her updated on everything. She has wanted to visit, but I told her to stay home for her safety. Thankfully, Darius doesn't know where she lives, but I told her to be cautious.
"Hey," Nathan said as he walked into the living room.
"I didn't know you were home. I thought I heard you leave earlier." He sat beside me and grabbed his phone.
"It was a short morning. Our partners had some stuff to think about for our changes,"
"What kind of changes?"
"My boss changed his mind about a deal, and they weren't happy,"
"Did your wretched boss have a temper tantrum?" I joked, and he nodded. "I wish I could've been there to see that. Two old men arguing about whoever is richer has more power,"
"When did you start assuming my boss was old and grumpy?" I laughed at his question.
"Is he not?"
"Point taken," He shrugged and looked at the t.v.
"You know," I turned to look at him. "I don't know anything about you,"
"What do you want to know?" He didn't take his eyes off the screen.
"Your last name,"
"Pass,"
"What? You can't pass on questions," I laughed.
"I don't want you to google me and find out everything from a different source,"
He turned to look at me, and I nodded. Understandable.
"How about siblings? Do you have any?"
"No," he turned to look at me and sighed. "Yes, we have a tough relationship,"
He turned his attention back to the screen, and I frowned.
"How old are you?"
"Isn't it a little rude to talk about a person's age?"
"You don't have to answer. It's fine."
He grabbed my hand and smiled. I'm so terrified to ask the wrong thing.
"I'm twenty-seven, you?"
"Twenty-four"
I turned my attention to the t.v. When I was about to ask him another question, his phone rang.
"Hello?"
He let go of my hand and sat up. I turned to look at him, and his facial expression changed.
"Right now?"
"Okay, yeah, we will be right there,"
He hung up and sighed.
"We? Who was that?"
"That was the detective in charge of Darius's case. They need us to come down to the station now,"
My heart started racing, "Do they have him?"
"They didn't want to tell me. All they want is for us to go now,"
I nodded. He grabbed my hand, and we made our way down. I am pretty sure he can feel me shaking, and I wouldn't doubt if he could hear my heart racing. It felt like it was going to burst out of my chest.
When we got to the lobby, he called for his car, and the receptionist turned to look at me. I had a bad feeling about her, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Or maybe she's just a bitch.
I was fidgeting with my fingers the whole ride there, and Nathan placed his hand over mine. We finally got to the station, and he helped me out of the car. He wrapped his arm around my waist and led me in.
"If you feel uncomfortable at any point. We leave," He whispered in my ear.
There were cops everywhere, and they all turned to look at us as we walked by. I felt like a lost puppy on the streets.
"I got a call saying we should get here as soon as possible. It's regarding Darius Lennox,"
Hearing that name come out of his mouth was still new to me.
"Are you Nathan?" Some older gentleman came up to us.
"Yes, and you are?"
"Detective Henderson, I was the one who called you earlier," He shook his hand and turned to look at me. "You must be Eris," He shook my hand, and I shot him a small smile.
"Why did you need us to come so soon?" Nathan asked.
"Let's step into my office so we can discuss this,"
Walking through the hallways, having everyone staring at you as if they know something you don't. They probably do. It makes my skin crawl.
"Did you find him?" Nathan questioned as soon as he closed the door.
"No, but we do have some other information," He sighed. We sat in front of his desk, and he looked at me. "Do you happen to know a Stacy Jackson?"
"Yes..." What does she have anything to do with this?
"We got this picture this morning, and we need you to confirm her identity,"
He placed and picture in front of us. Stacy was asleep, and she had a sign in front of her. It read, Drop the charges, and I'll let her go. I turned my attention from the picture, and tears formed in my eyes.
"Yes, that's her," I sobbed. "Does he have her? Have you checked her place?"
"We did. The door was broken into. The place was trashed, and she wasn't there," I turned to face him again. "Just before you came in, we got a video from him. It's a little hard to watch,"
"We don't have to," Nathan said and looked at me.
"No, show me the video,"
Detective Henderson opened the laptop hesitantly, and the keyboard noises echoed around the room. I held Nathan's hand tight in anticipation. My leg was shaking, and my heart hadn't stopped racing from the moment we stepped in. He turned the laptop back around, and it displayed a black screen. He pressed play, and there were some shuffling noises.
"Tell them exactly what I told you and nothing else. Don't try to be funny," I instantly knew that was Darius. Stacy's image appeared, and she looked terrified. Her hair was messy, and her makeup was all over her face.
"I have been informed to tell you to leave Darius alone. Drop the charges, and he will drop me off at a secure location safely." she sobbed, and my heart broke. I placed my hand over my mouth as the tears in my eyes blurred my vision. "He said never to bother him again." She looked to the side of the camera and cried. "Please let me go! I didn't do anything!"
"This is what happens when you have friends like that bitch. If she truly cares about you, she will listen,"
Her image disappeared, but her screams bellowed through the laptop speakers. It cut off instantly, and I stared blankly at the screen.
"We have more people working on the case. We wanted to update you on what we had so far,"
Nathan was talking to Detective Henderson, but their voices started to sound distant. I can't believe he had her. It was all my fault.
