ERIS
"Wait, Crystal was involved with this?" I questioned.
"Is she dead?" Nathan asked, with a hint of hope in his tone.
"She left the building right before it all happened. They are looking for her now,"
I laid my head back. Why would she do this? How can she do this? Was she planning this for long, or was it out of impulse?
"There isn't more news about the man with the backpack?" I asked.
"The security company is supposed to pull up the footage of everything that happened before the explosion," Mathew explained.
"I think that's enough for today," Nathan said and looked at me.
I turned away as soon as I felt the tears stinging my eyes. People died because of this. We almost died because of this. Alana hasn't even woken up. I let out a sob, and I closed my eyes. I felt the bed dipping beside me and felt a pair of strong arms wrap around me. I looked up, and my heart dropped when I realized it was Mathew. He brought my head to his chest, and I closed my eyes.
I lost my best friend and almost lost the closest thing I have to family. This was never going to end.~
We were waiting for the doctor to come back with some test results. I was already up and walking from my bed, thankfully. Nathan was being stubborn, but he was feeling better. We would stay here together until we were okay to live elsewhere. Nathan told us they were going to send the video any minute now. I looked over at Mathew, and he was playing with his rings.
"I got it," Nathan said. He placed the computer on a table and typed something on it. I walked over to him, Mathew going to his other side, and waited for him to pull up the video.
"I don't know what we will see. Let me know if you want me to take it off," He said, and I nodded.
He pressed play, and a video recording started playing. The audio wasn't clear, just distinct voices. It seemed like a typical day. Busy lounge people were walking in and out of the view.
"There," Mathew pointed.
There was a man in dark clothes keeping his head down. He walked up to the receptionist, and they were having a discussion. He slammed his hand against the desk, and she stood up.
"That's not Crystal," Nathan commented.
The receptionist went to the back and came out with another lady.
"Now that's her," I said.
The mystery man was talking with her away from the desk. At first, it looked like a normal conversation, but then it got heated. He looked around and shoved the backpack in her arms. A few people around them stood up and walked away.
"His face is still low. I can't see anything," Mathew tried getting closer to the screen.
She hugged him and walked away with the backpack into a back room. He turned around and made his way out. Before stepping out, he glanced over his shoulder and continued walking out of the building.
"Nathan," I said.
He replayed the video and paused it when the mystery man turned around. I placed a hand over my mouth.
"It can't be," I whispered.
Nathan grabbed his phone and stormed out of the room.
"What just happened?" Mathew asked.
"Darius," I pointed at the screen. "That's him,"
"How is that even possible? Isn't that fucker in jail?" He ran his hand through his hair.
"He is. Maybe we are wrong," I replayed the video and shook my head.
"Ow,"
I looked up and saw Alana opening her eyes slowly.
"Alana?!" I pushed away the table and ran to her bedside.
"It hurts," She coughed.
A shuffling noise was in the background, and a doctor came running in. Mathew moved me aside while they checked up on her. She was looking around, confused.
"Everything seems to be normal. She might be a little out of it for a while. If she has trouble breathing, please call us," They all left the room, and I walked up to the bed again.
"What happened?" She asked.
"There was an attack," I replied, and her face dropped
"My babies?" She frowned.
"We are all okay," Mathew reassured.
"Where is Nathan then?"
I looked over at Mathew, and he glanced at the door.
"He had to take a phone call. He was just here," He grabbed her hand. "He is going to be happy to see you awake, but you need your rest, Don't stress yourself out. If he comes back and sees you aren't fully okay, he will kill me,"
I smiled at him. I admire how much love he has for his sister. For his niece and nephew as well. Alana doesn't like when Mathew spoils them too much, but that's how he shows his love.
We caught up Alana with what we knew so far. We didn't tell her about our suspicions about who was behind the attack. We didn't want to worry her. She was already freaking out about the bombs.
The door busted open, and Nathan walked in with his phone in his hands. "I just got off the phone with Detective Henderson. He said Darius escaped jail earlier today, and they are-"
He stopped talking as soon as he saw Alana sitting up, staring at him.
"Wait, who?" She looked at me. "Jail? What's going on?"
"I didn't know you were awake," Nathan said nervously and walked over to her. He glanced between Mathew and me, then smiled at Alana.
"Please, can someone explain what the hell is going on?" I looked back at Elijah, who was currently asleep on one of the beds we had set up here. I turned my attention back to Alana, and she gasped.
"Wait, Isn't Darius the name of your psycho ex?"
What a delightful way to start a conversation.
