Empty Closet

The memories, that he kept locked,
They fade away ever so slightly,
Time left only clothes she stocked,
The vivid colors glistening brightly.

The old faded blue jeans she wore every day,
The small flower handbag, which I had to pay,
The costume, she once wore on halloween,
I was a cowboy and she was my queen.

The cardigan, that was her favourite piece,
The dress, she brought for her little niece,

The elegant, loose polka-dot-shirt,
That she paired with a cherry red skirt.

The muddy sneakers, that took every risk,
The trenchcoat she used, when the weather was brisk,

My oversized sweater, that she used to love,
The checked flanell-blouse, with a pure little dove.

The white, sleek wedding gown,
She wore to our ceremony,
With a sparkly, silver crown,
When she agreed the matrimony.

By now I had realized, the clothes were still there,
Nothing moved and I couldn't help but stare.

I wished for the old days to come back,
When she was still on the right track.
