Lily
It was somewhere 1 in the night. I woke up to a noise lesser in a decibel and went out of the room to check. Jeremy was sleeping soundly. Carefully skipping out of his hold I make my way to the living room and watch Emma and Sammy whispering to each other. Both of them look up when I enter.
A second late I realize they must have been to the bathroom I thrashed under the influence of my misery and sorrow. "I am sorry. I didn't mean to do that damage but I just kind of lost my mind and..." "Lily, are you alright?" Sammy asks before I could complete the words.
Her eyes trail down on my body and so do mine, falling on the bandages around my knuckles. I try to fix a small smile on my face and say, "Yeah, I am fine." Emma raises an eyebrow, "Doesn't seems like it!"
"What makes you think so?" I ask.
"Girl, how would you explain Boss' car in our building's parking and that he skipped a welcome party meant for a cute little child his family adopted?"
I huff, "Look, I am totally fine and I apologize for the bathroom. I am sure you guys got scared but I promise I'll get it fixed tomorrow morning."
They had a mixed expression on their face I couldn't quite pin point to. While Emma doubted my words Sammy looked with rather sympathy. "Lily?" –Sammy asks. I hum in response to which she says, "Jeremy Langford is sleeping in your bed right now, isn't he?"
I nod, "He is here."
Sammy squeals and makes a puppy eyed face to Emma, "Let's leave them alone, Ems. Pretty please" Emma sighs and threw her hand up in the air, "Fine, fine" –turns to me- "but you better take care of yourself and that bathroom as well."
I smile weakly, "I am sorry, Emma. I am sorry Sammy."
They wave off to their room after some more talk where I discovered that after the party two of them went on an ice-cream date and swung by the beach before getting home. I head back to mine and gently close the door behind.
Jeremy laid there as he was before I left the room. At some point he'd remove his dress shirt. His messy dark brown locks, those perfect cheek bones, sharp jawline, thick cords of his neck, summing up his handsome face, this man was for sure curated by God themselves, no wonder I was ready to make a bargain with my so called father to keep Jeremy away from him.
I get back to my place and turn to face him, bring his arm across my shoulders placing myself in his embrace. My fingers gingerly enough swipe the hair strands that were falling on his forehead. I trace the line of his eyebrow down to his cheek bone, place a small kiss on his forehead and whisper, "Thank you, you handsome idiot."
I sigh and focus on the actual reason to why Jeremy was here. Hannah. It was a shame on my part that I couldn't save my little niece. It was supposed to be me not her or Millie. They were meant to be a happy family instead of getting separated and worse of all? Getting separated like this. Cruelty had to have limits I thought but here it went out of the sky.
Millie wouldn't have rested when she'd know that Hannah was in trouble. The mystery lies here is what the fuck happened because last I recall I woke up in a hospital and the news of Millie not anymore was broken to me by police officials. I had gone crazy and the madness lasted years and years until it drained me to the core and made me lousy and broke.
The bottom line would be the fact that now Hannah is the safest. Langford family would rather start a war then let have anyone sniff threat or danger near her. Yet it hurts to think I was not there for her. Now that I think about the situation where by a chance I had saved Hannah and 2 of us had to live without Millie for the rest of the life, where would I have been, if not here?
