The three girls rush into the woods, their breathing heavy as they go deeper into the unsettling environment. Y/n is still in Mary's arms, bouncing up and down by her sister's running, but is still in a good grip, though Mary is getting tired of holding the little one. They ignore the sky going dark and the green disappearing from the tree and grass. Soon, a moon filled with light rose into the night sky right behind the young girls.
Once the four reach a clearing, they slowed to a stop and look around, taking in the new environment in fear of what they were running from.
"Where are we?" Mary asks, leaning herself to the ground so she can catch her breath. Winnie is quick to take y/n off her sister's hands as she answers, "I do not know." I've never been this deep into the wood before."
Y/n fusses, not liking the area they are in either, and Winnie quickly bounces her up and down, quietly telling her it's okay.
"I do not like this place," Sarah says aloud, her voice quaking with fear. After regaining a bit of strength, Mary straightens herself and looks at the girls. "Perhaps we should form a calming circle." She offers.
The girls are quick to huddle with each other, Sarah holding y/n's hand instead of Winnie's since that hand is occupied with holding the baby. The three older girls look to the sky with closed eyes. Their chest rises slowly, and they all walk in a circle.
"Think soothing thoughts," Winnie mutters. "The smell of fresh mud." She begins listing.
Y/n's attention is taken away from her sisters when she notices movement in the trees. Her eyes follow after the object, and she coos at the sight of a bird landing on a branch, intently watching the group.
"The Reverend's scream when he saw the spider. The soothing thoughts." Winnie continues, not realizing her baby sister is not paying attention to them.
A twig snaps, scaring the older girls out of the circle. "What was that?" Winnie asks as the three look around them to see what caused the sound. The girls huddle into a group hug, holding onto one another tightly.
A voice sneaks through the trees and into the girls' ears, attracting Sarah and y/n, who tilt their heads in sync.
Come little children, I'll take thee away
As if in a trance, Sarah breaks from the group and walks towards the voice, y/n reaches out to the voice, like she could reach to the owner of the soothing melody, while Winnie and Mary stand still, frozen in place.
Into a land of enchantment
Winnie snaps out of it and shouts in a whisper, "No, Sarah!" before rushing over and grabbing Sarah by her wrist to pull her back into the hug.
Y/n decides to speak up and point to the bird, shouting "Babah!" as if she's calling for it to come. The girls look at the baby in confusion, wondering what she means.
Like it's responding to y/n, the bird squawks, catching the girls' attention with a gasp. The feathered creature takes off, gliding quickly to the group.
Once in reach, the bird shifts into a woman with glowing eyes, her wings turning into a cape, and the woman snatches Sarah by the throat. Mary and Winnie cry for the woman to stop and rush to help Sarah, but a gust of when momentarily pushes them back.
"Thou looketh thirsty, child." The woman says happily while bringing a glowing drink to Sarah's mouth, which is shut tight. Winnie rushes over and shoves the woman away. "Let her go!" Winnie demands.
The woman drops Sarah and grabs Winnie by her dress. Y/n hides her face into Winnie's shoulder at the way the woman looks at the two of them.
The woman takes a whiff of Winnie, and she falters. She pushes Winnie back and the glow leaves her eyes. Winnie backed up, hugging y/n protectively.
