"pumpkin"
by the regrettes
" we're heavy lifting, but we're feeling fine
we think it's funny when we look at the time
i know co-dependency has dragged me out
but i really don't think that's what this is about
i wanna give it all, i know i will
...
i used to think that romeo was full of shit
and the notebook was just my favorite chick flick
but now i get why sarah was so hard to forget
it's this feeling that i'm feelin' like nemo in a net
pumpkin, pumpkin
you're gonna kill me
pumpkin, pumpkin
la, la-la-la-la, la
...
we're cruisin' slowly, but we're movin' fast
we've both decided to thank our past
we got a hundred lists of things we wanna do
but, i'm also cool just doing nothing with you
...
i looked at my mom and said what do i do?
she said, this look is something and it's new and true
...
i used to think that romeo was full of shit
but, when i look at you, i think this must be it, oh "

It was the first thanksgiving eleanor hadn't spent in new york.
to most people, that didn't seem like a big deal.
but to a shepherd ? it meant a lot.
coming from a family with 6 siblings (siblings who were married with kids) thanksgiving was a big event.
there were in-laws and little nieces and nephews
and eleanor and derek loved it.
derek, not thrilled at the idea of spending the day alone with addison, was spending his thanksgiving at the hosptial.
but eleanor,
eleanor was homesick and spending her's in bed.
she missed her mom, and seeing her sister's kids.
okay, yeah, she missed her sisters too.
she missed her family.
sure she had found a family here in seattle, but it just wasn't the same.
none of it was the same.
so she laid in bed.
ignoring every shout and knock on her door from izzie.
she just laid there.

"what are you doing here?" alex asked when he saw meredith sitting on the floor of a patient's room.
"waiting for my patient to wake up." she answered.
"why aren't you at the thanksgiving?" he asked her.
"why aren't you at thanksgiving?" she asked him.
he sighed and took a seat next to her on the floor, not saying anything.
"what?" meredith asked.
"i tell you something, you tell me something." he proposed.
"okay." she breathed out, closing the chart. "i feel like one of those people who's so freakin' miserable they can't be around normal people... like I'll infect the happy people... like i'm some miserable, diseased, dirty ex-mistress." she told him. "your turn."
