Fifty four

My day was made when FiFi called the next day just to say she is inviting me for dinner

I was getting ready to leave the hotel when my phone rings and it was Alden calling

I grind my teeth together I haven't even had time to explain myself to him and I was hoping to reach out to him before he noticed have been away longer than I should .

I picked the call and take a deep breath

"Ambrose "

"Oh hi Alden "

"So I heard your flight was delayed "

"Yeah I haven't been feeling too well"

"Oh really! Have you been to the hospital "

"Yeah! " I fake a cough
"I mean I have been placed on medication "

"And "

"Am not sure it's working "

"Do you know exactly what the problem is"
I would have lied saying it's my heart but it's not exactly a good line to let your partner know you have a medical condition

It just screams all kinds of wrongs

I have been on medication for over a year now after I collapsed at the sub station.
I remember there was so much traffic and I was running late for my meeting so I decided to use to subway , I left my driver and hurried to catch a train

I first starting feeling dizzy I thought it was because of the crowd the whole place was congested and it was getting harder to breathe

Somehow I ran out of breath and blackout
I was rushed to the hospital and the doctor diagnosed me again like I wasn't aware that am dying

He said a lot of gibberish but what I could deduce from it is that , my condition is not getting better and even a transplant might not work considering that the tissues connected to my heart are already paralyzed due to exhaustion probably because It wasn't working well to begin with.

The doctor was optimistic so he placed me on the list for awaiting heart donor then he said if I use my medication well , it would really increase my chances of surviving

Truth be told , I rarely touch the pile of medication and sometimes I don't feel like living my life based on chances.

I believe in Que sera sera.; what will be will be

So back to conversation with Alden and how he was ranting about my absence affecting the ongoing project and other relatable issues

"Am not intentionally staying back Alden , I'll be back in a couple of days"

"Couple of days Ambrose, are you being serious. The deadline for the project approval is tomorrow and we have already been declined once I think we should be gearing up not taking a vacation "

"Am not taking a vacation, am on medical break "

"Whatever you wanna call it now is not the right time. We are both unavailable and obviously this is the time we need all hands on deck "

"I understand but Bianca is handling it really well"

"Are you even listening. If she was doing so great then why were we declined in the first place "

"She's really trying Alden "

"Am not saying she's not, but obviously this is not her field and she can't oversee everything. Long story short Ambrose you need to come back tonight "

"And what difference will that make if the presentation is tomorrow "

"At least you'll be present and our clients can know we take this seriously "
