Alicent

The halls of the red keep were always dark, cold and empty at night. One could always hear little rats scurrying around, other than that, it was completely and utterly desolate. Alicent hated this place. She would much rather be living in the country where she felt she could breathe, it was almost suffocating living in the heart of kings landing.

She had lived there ever since her mother died, which happened when she was very young. She still remembers her sweet smile as she recited her and her brother stories of the seven. They used to live in the countryside just south of Tumbleton which was in itself, just south of Kings landing (with the exception of her father who was hand of the king and was required to live in the red keep). She loved it. They would wake up late, wash only once a week, their mother would teach stories of the seven in the mornings and they would go riding every noontide. Her father would come to visit every so often and they would dine together as a family. Until the accident.

After, Alicent was forced to move to Kings Landing to become Princess Rhaenyra's personal escort. She didn't start her duty's until she was of the age nine, Rhaenyra eight.

She had only eight years of age when they first met. She had been wandering around the red keep (in which she was forbidden to wander) when she noticed a young girl, about her age or younger. She had the most beautiful silver hair Alicent had ever seen. The girl was crying softly with her hands shoved in her face. She had been crying so hard that quite a bit of drool and tears had dribbled down her nightgown; drenching a good portion of the front half. Alicent felt disgusted at first, but that quickly faded into empathy. She rushed over. It startled the girl causing her to stand and back away slowly.

"I'm sorry for startling you. I just noticed that you were sad and I wanted to comfort you." Alicent said to the girl. Her mother had taught her that if someone was sad, then you are obliged to comfort them until they feel better.

"No." The girl said "I'm not sad. I'm enraged."

"May I ask, why?"

"My stupid fucking dragon!" The girl shouted, tears dripping of her chin. Alicent gasped and took a step back. Never in her life had she heard such brash language, nonetheless from a girl. "Syrax won't listen to me. I've tried all different methods to make her focus and follow my directions. Nothing is working and Father is getting irritated."

Alicent had suspected that this girl was Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, and now she had all the evidence she needed to confirm. She quickly lifted her skirt and curtsied.

"Princess." She mumbled, blushing with embarrassment. How had she not known; It was completely obvious with the color of her hair.

"Took you a long while to realize, people usually assume when they see my hair." She said looking oddly amused. Alicent wondered if she could read minds along with all of her other Targaryen abilities.

"Sorry, Princess." Alicent sputtered out. Her hands had started to sweat profusely so she tucked them away behind her back.

"You're going to be my personal escort, correct?" The princess asked cocking her head to the side a bit and wiping her hair away; which had been plastered to her face.

"Yes, once I've finished my preparations."

"Does wandering about the halls of the red keep pertain to these 'preparations' you speak of?"

Alicent was taken aback. Usually children her age did not have such a way with words. Yet she was the princess, she must've had a hearty education.

"No. I cannot sleep here." Alicent said staring at her feet. She could feel the princess gaze boring into the top of her head.

"Rhaenyra!" A voice echoed from down the hall.

"It's my mother. I must go." The princess said as she walked away, not looking back.

Alicent rushed to her chambers shortly afterwards, praying to the gods that Rhaenyra would not tell her father.

She didn't.
