Rhaenyra

The wind whipped through Rhaenyra's hair as she flew hundreds of feet above kings landing. She sucked in a deep breath, picking up the scent of the warm sea and food being prepared in the houses below. She smiled and gave Syrax a small pat on her back before taking hold of the reins and heading back to the dragon pit.

She hopped off Syrax's back and gave her a final rub before heading over to the carriage Alicent had brought for her.

"Welcome back, Princess. I trust your ride was pleasant." Ser Harrold Westerling said, greeting her. Her father had been sending him to supervise her as of late. She didn't mind his company, so it wasn't a pressing concern.

"Try not to look too releived, ser." She said smirking at him. She knew he had doubts about her flying abilities.

"I am relieved. Every time that golden beast brings you back unspoiled, it saves my head from a spike." He says as she ignores him, and prances over to meet Alicent.

"Syrax is growing quickly. She'll soon be as large as Caraxes." She says with a small smile on her face as she admires the beast.

"That's almost large enough to saddle two!" Rhaenyra says smirking at Alicent.

"I believe I am quite content as a spectator, thank you." She says smirking back, quickly turning on her heal and heading into the carriage, Leaving Rhaenyra speechless.

Once they reached the Red Keep they walked hand in hand throughout the halls, conversing about various topics. It had been eight months since Alicent had returned and everything had returned to normal. They truthfully hadn't spent more than a day apart since. Yet it wasn't truly normal, theyre feelings were quite apparent for each other, no matter how much they tried to ignore them. Situations would get intimate unintentionally, which would lead to one of them having to leave. Rhaenyra thought this was idiotic, but she valued her friendship with Alicent more than anything and couldn't risk losing it.

"Ah... Rhaenyra!" Her mother greeted them as they entered her chambers. They had been visiting her daily so Rhaenyra could check up on how she was feeling. This was one of the longest pregnancy's she had seen her mother endure, and everyone was hopeful. "You know I don't like you to go flying while I'm in this condition."

"You don't like me to go flying whether you're in any condition." She countered walking over and sitting by her mother who was practically bursting.

"Shit!" Rhaenyra said realizing she was late to tend to the small council. She had been helping lately and she found it quite entertaining. She ran the the halls and into the room as fast as she could.

"Rhaenyra you're late. King's cupbearer must not be late." Her father said interrupting his previous conversation. "Leaves people wanting for cups."

"I was visiting mother." She said kissing him on the cheek, hoping that would shut him up.

"On dragon back?" He said sniffing her. She rolled her eyes and went to fetch a cup.

They spoke about her soon to be brother, which worried her slightly, the heirs tournament, and daemons absence but after a while, Rhaenyra did not pay much attention. Her mind wandered to Alicent as she filled the men's cups. She was wearing a light blue dress today that hung across her shoulders. Her neck looked soft to the touch which made a shiver run down Rhaenyra's back.

Later, as she lay under the weirwood looking up at Alicent, she couldn't help but wonder what it would truly be like if they could escape, fly to Essos and be real people.

"Did you read it?" Alicent asked snapping Rhaenyra out of her daydream.

"Of course, I read it." She said looking up at her. Alicent didn't believe her. She yanked a blade of grass from the ground and begun twirling it around her fingers.

"When Princess Nymeria arrived in Dorne who did she take to husband?" She asked smirking.

"A man." She answered.

"What was his name?"

"Lord something." She smiled.

"If you answer with "Lord Something," Septa Marlow will be furious."

"She's funny when she's furious." She said causing a prolonged silence.

"You're always like this when you're worried." Alicent said breaking the silence.

"Like what?" Rhaenyra asked looking up.

"Disagreeable." She said looking her In the eyes, which caused Rhaenyra to look away. "You're worried your father is about to overshadow you with a son."

"I only worry for my mother." She said, suddenly becoming very interested in the blade of grass she was twiddling through her fingers. "I hope for my father that he gets a son. As long as I recall, it's all he's wanted."

"You want him to have a son?

"I want to fly with you on dragonback, see the great wonders across the Narrow Sea, and only eat cake."

"I'm being serious." She said looking back at her book.

"I never jest about cake!"

"You aren't worried about your position?" She said sounding quite urgent.

"I like this position. It's quite comfortable." Rhaenyra responded, refusing to match her tone. She slammed the book shut in return and stood letting Rhaenyra's head fall to the ground with the absence of her leg.

"Where are you going?" Rhaenyra asked standing to follow her.

"To my chamber. The hour has grown late."

"Princess Nymeria led her Rhoynar across the Narrow Sea on ten thousand ships to flee their Valyrian pursuers." She said causing Alicent to fumble through her book searching for the page. "She took Lord Mors Martell of Dorne to husband and burned her own fleet off Sunspear to show her people that they were finished running." She said leaning over inches away from Alicent's face ripping the page out of her book.

"What are you doing?"

"So you remember." She says setting the page back down in front of her.

"If- if the Septa sees this book, then-" She said fumbling with the page.

"Fuck the Septa."

Alicent looked at her shocked. "Rhaenyra!" She said giggling causing Rhaenyra to laugh with her and take her arm. It was the perfect time to promenade about the castle.
