Chapter Twenty-Nine: Misty's Admission

     "Ohhhh, now I think I understand what started, Mommy!" Opal smiles knowingly. "You started to fall for Daddy!" Her large eyes sparkle excitedly.

     Both of her parents smile. "That's one way of putting it," Cassandra says. "Even though, at the time, I still had no clue. Or, I guess I may have had a tiny speck of an idea, I was just in major denial."

"And I certainly didn't know," Varian says. "I still wasn't going to give up, but at that point I believed she wasn't anywhere near falling for me yet."

"We had more important things to think about, anyway," Cassandra says. "We needed to get that next orb."

"Which wasn't easy," Varian says. "But Misty turned out to be just the help we needed..."


"What's your idea?" Varian asks Misty. He is curious how she could have come up with something so quickly.

     "I'm not sure if it'll work," Misty says. "But, there is a little trick us mermaids have."

"I'm aware that you mermaids have tricks," Cassandra says, hands on her hips.

Misty is briefly taken aback by this comment. "I'm sorry your last experience with a mermaid was negative, but I assure you I am nothing like the thief Seraphina."

     Cassandra huffs with irritation. "My mistake. Just go ahead and tell us your idea."

     "It would be easier if I show you," Misty says. She ducks underwater for a moment, and then reappears to gesture for them to follow.

     Varian steps forward, but Cassandra grabs his arm to stop him. "Do you really trust her that much?" She whispers.

     "Cass, we've known her for nearly a month," Varian says

     "Cass, we've known her for nearly a month," Varian says. "Stop worrying so much."

     "We've had a few conversations with her on the beach. Is that really knowing her?"

     "She wants to help."

     "But does she? For all we know, she could be luring you down to a watery death."
