"No, why would he? Andrew has no privileges. Is there something I don't know?"
Despite the supposed calmness, by the way the cheekbones rose under the smoothly shaved skin of the rich heir, Elena could tell that she had made herself an enemy.
She had already opened her mouth to answer, when the patron's phone rang.
"Just a minute, this is an important call."
The man took a perfectly white napkin off his lap and cast a stern look at Andrew before answering.
His son, in turn, inexplicably relaxed and even leaned back in his chair.
"Well, now let's hear about the privileges"
He said ingratiatingly, as soon as his father had left the room.
The guy's hand reached for a glass of water and, taking a lazy sip, Andrew burned Elena with a mocking look.
"Elena, listen" Only now the girl noticed how tense William was. He literally turned white as he leaned closer to her, whispering quickly: "I understand you want what's best, but let's put today's incident with Andrew behind us. I don't think his father needs to know about it."
"What? What are you talking about, Mr. Lee? You told me not to restrain myself in my teaching methods. And I think that any parent needs to know how his child behaves with others."
"Someone else may be, but not Jacob Ledger"
Elena couldn't believe her ears. And this is telling her dad's best friend, who taught her to be responsible for their own actions and never lie? In an instant, the world turned inside out, where it was not the quality of things that mattered, but the name on the tag. And the most valuable name in this case was Andrew Ledger. A spoiled brat, who had bought back the respect and love of those around him behind his father's back. It became disgusting to the point of nausea. She even wanted to get up and leave, but Elena needed this job.
"So, excuse me for this call" In a cheerful voice Mr. Ledger announced his presence, "Where were we?"
"I was going to say that Andrew was late for my class today"
Elena replied with a jerk of her chin. She couldn't break from her principles. And even if she had to keep quiet about the fact that he was not just late, but that he had sabotaged it, she would at least say something to knock that smug grin off his triumphant face.
You got "A", Elena. The smirk did melt away in a split second, squeezing the guy's stiff lips into a thin line.
"Well, it happens," the devil spawn's parent shrugged incomprehensibly, stabbing a slice of beef on his fork. "I don't think all students are on time, are they, Elena?"
"Yes" The girl noted dryly, dodging the fireballs flying toward her from both sides. "But Andrew showed up for exactly half of the class and didn't even apologize, as if it was normal"
There! The effect has been achieved! Mr. Ledger's eyebrows drew together on the bridge of his nose. He looked first at Andrew, then at William.
"Is it true? Do you really come whenever you want, son?"
"Of course not" Elena could learn a masterful rehearsed poker face from the guy. "I was late, because I had my reasons. Isn't that right, Mr. Lee?
The man blinked a lot, confused by this change of pace, but then, after a quick grasp of the situation, he nodded affirmatively:
"Yes, Andrew was late, because I needed help with some books. Elena, you just misunderstood things"
What she heard made a beanpole stick in the girl's throat. She shifted her gaze from the hopeful family friend to the jubilant creep and couldn't say a word. It took her a few seconds to accept reality.
"I get it now" She nodded reservedly, pushing her plate away from her. "Thanks for dinner, but I have to go."
"Really?"
The owner of the house was amazed.
Yes, it was a mistake to come at all, so as not to be disappointed in a good man, whom she loved almost like a father.
"Yes, I remembered the urgent matters, and need to prepare for classes. Thank you for inviting me. - Elena was about to get up from the table, when the man suddenly remembered something"
"Right, in fact, that's why I called you. William told me about your exceptional knowledge of the Spanish language, is that right?"
"Yes"
She really was constantly improving her knowledge. In addition to the studies at the university, she also took private classes with native speakers on Skype. Hired all the time different teachers, something to share with them and absorbing new things. Standing still is the lot of the lazy.
Although she had not yet been able to go abroad, she knew the language perfectly well. Some clients spoke highly of her after she attended meetings with their business partners as an interpreter.
"This is good, because I would like you to give private lessons to Andrew. Preferably you should meet two or even three times a week. Get him up to speed"
Two pairs of dumbfounded eyes crashed sharply into Jacob.
"What, dad? Why? " Andrew's insides were all bubbling over with incipient protest. "I know Spanish"
"Yes" For the first time in all this time Elena sided with the guy "I think you'd better hire another professional, who could do it better, I just..."
"No, no, it's out of the question, I've already made up my mind. Your knowledge, Andy," the father sternly turned to his son, "begins and ends with bawdy slang, and I want you, coming to Spain, to be able to communicate in a clean and correct language, including business language. And you, Elena," Now the look of demanding eyes fell on the girl caught in the net, "I believe that you would be a better fit for my son as a teacher than people of a more mature age. You'll be able to find common topics, and I think the teaching will go in the right way for both of you"
Ha. Elena didn't hold back a nervous chuckle. She was already picturing these private lessons in her mind's eye.
