Two years ago...
It was stupid. It was so incredibly stupid. My idea, that was. Just fake your death Aria. Make everyone you care about believe you're dead. It was a good plan, in theory, but things never go to plan when it comes to me.
I hurried through the streets of Tatooine, hood up and face covered. An x-wing crash. That's how I died. My ship went haywire and crashed into a nearby forest. By the time they found it, everything inside would be too burned to find a body. Not that there was one in it to find.
It had been a long time since I set foot on the sands of Tatooine. The last time I had seen this town was when I had met Luke Skywalker. Han and I had been on the run from Jabba after an unfortunate bet was placed, leaving us in a predicament when Skywalker and an old man walked into the cantina, asking for passage. Everything changed after that. When I saw him again. When I saw Obi-Wan Kenobi.
"Really Aria?" a voice spoke up and I stopped dead in my tracks. "Faking your own death?"
Taking a deep breath, I turned around, spotting Luke Skywalker on the steps above me. "Skywalker."
Shaking his head, the blonde boy moved sideways down the stairs approaching me. "What is this?" he asked.
I shook my head. "I can't stay here. I can't sit around and pretend nothing is wrong when things are clearly wrong Luke."
"Vader is dead," Skywalker told me firmly. "The universe is safe. What more do you need?"
"I need him dead Luke," I shot back, moving closer. "I need him dead."
"Don't let your anger overtake you," he warned me.
I only scoffed. "I was a Sith for ten years Luke," I reminded him. "I was a smuggler when you found me, but I used to fight on the side you defeated."
"You were forced into that."
"Damn right I was," I cut him off. "By him."
Turning away, I walked a few steps from him before he spoke again.
"Killing him won't bring you peace."
I stopped. "I don't want it to bring me peace."
A hand rest on my shoulder gently, turning me around. "Then why?"
"I want revenge. He killed my mother, ruined my father and destroyed my life."
"That's in the past Aria."
"And yet I can't let it go," I argued. "I have to kill him." I was seething now.
"Sir!" a voice shouted. It was a New Republic solider. "Are you alright?"
From the position of my hood, he couldn't see my face, but he could see Luke. My eyes pleaded with him. He wasn't going to let me go, I knew that. He couldn't. It wasn't in him to do anything bad. There was no dark in Luke Skywalker anymore, but there was still Dark in me. It never left.
"I'm fine Pax," Luke replied, swallowing hard. "Report back to the General, I'll be there in a moment."
The soldier's footsteps moved away, and I let out a long sigh. "Thank you."
"I hope you find what you're looking for," Luke told me. "And I hope that when you do, you come back."
I took a deep breath, wrapping my arms around him in a tight hug. He returned it, kissing my hair gently. Closing my eyes, I buried my face in his shoulder.
"Come back to me," he muttered.
When I pulled away, he was looking at me fondly. "Luke..."
"I know," he answered before I could continue. "Don't tell Leia."
