"I can hear you thinking," Din muttered, directing the observation towards me.
I sighed, casting the Mandalorian a soft glance before watching the path ahead. Cara and Miggs walked not three paces in front of us, the kid in between and Kuill behind. Karga led the way, the men he had brought with him in different positions around us. They were in the prime position to attack.
"How can you hear someone thinking?" I retaliated. "The point of it is that others do not know your thoughts."
"I know your thoughts," he confirmed, turning to look at me for a moment. "They are the same as mine."
Pausing, I watched Greef carefully. "You and I both know that, given the chance, that man would choose himself."
"At one point, both of us have been the same."
"Are you defending him?" I questioned, lowering my voice as I noticed a nearby bounty hunter's gaze. He all but monitored our movements.
"No."
"And here I thought that perhaps you had become a man of many words," I dismissed.
As we reached the top of the small cliff, Karga turned without warning and I had already pulled my blaster from its holster on my belt, aiming it at the Guild Member.
He did not shoot any of us, instead simultaneously taking out both of the bounty hunters that had accompanied him. They had no time to think.
Blaster raised, I took a step forward, taking a firm position in front of the kid. "What did they ever do to you?" I asked.
Mando came up by my side, Cara and Miggs falling in behind us. I watched the ex-trooper eye the bodies before giving me a firm nod.
"Put the blaster down Aria," Greef told me.
I shook my head gently. "I don't trust you Karga."
"As you shouldn't," he countered, holding up both of his weapons in defence before placing them down on the ground. "I admit, this was not the plan."
"What was the plan?" Din asked harshly.
"Kill you and take the child," he explained. My grip didn't loosen. "But after what happened last night, I couldn't go through with it."
"Go on," Din urged.
"You can gun me down here and now and it wouldn't violate the Code," he began.
"I have no issues with that," I muttered, taking a step forward.
Din's hand grasped my arm, and I adverted my gaze to his. "Or?" he asked Greef.
"Look, if you kill me, the child will never be safe," the man argued.
"We'll take our chances," Cara spoke up from behind us.
"The Imperial client is obsessed with obtaining this asset," Greef tried. "You tried to run, but where did it get you?"
"This is kriffing ridiculous," Miggs told me.
"Perhaps you should let him speak," Kuill suggested appearing from behind.
"You know what you crinkled – " Miggs tried but I jostled him in the ribs.
"Just shut up for a second," I whispered.
"We both need the client to be eliminated," Karga explained, turning my attention back to him. "Let me take the child to him and then you can –"
